I was listening to a radio programme this morning where the contributors mentioned their favourite comics from when they were young. It made me feel quite nostalgic. I loved Bunty, especially the cut out wardrobe on the back cover, and enjoyed my brothers' Beano. When I got older, I always loved Jackie. Anyone else have an old favourite?

I started off with Teddy Bear comic when I was about 4, then moved onto Jack and Jill at about 5, Beano, Beezer and Whizzer n Chips from 7 or 8. Then I had Bunty (which was a bit rubbish) at about 9 or 10 and moved on to Diana then Jackie when I started senior school. Then it was My Guy and Oh Boy with the photo-romance stories at 15 or so, and finally older teenage magazines like Honey and 19.0

The Beano was the only one, I was reading novels by the time I was nine or so (admittedly Blyton etc. to start with).Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230

Twinkle then the Beano for me when I was little. As I got older there was another one but I can't remember it's name, it was half way between a comic and a pop magazine. Then I went on to just 17 and sometimes Smash Hits.Zebras rock0

Bunty and Judy between the ages of about 8 and 11. Not both at the same time because my mum was strict (and skint) and if I wanted a new comic I had to stop the one I already had.0

Going to the newsagent to buy a comic with my pocket money was always a bit of a Saturday morning ritual during my childhood. My mum and dad usually had a lie in, and they'd ask me to fetch the Daily Mail and twenty No 6 tipped ....no worries about kids buying cigarettes in the 60's and 70's :rotfl:0

Ooh, I'd forgotten about Judy. Yes, sure I read that as well sometimes, but my mum was also strict about spending money as well. Mind you, Bunty's cut out wardrobe swayed it for me!0

As well as comics, I also liked reading my mum's Family Circle which she picked up with the shopping in Fine Fare. I did go to the library occasionally, but there weren't anywhere near as many children's books as we have now, and the kids section was mainly information books. I read whatever I could get my hands on, some books 3 or 4 times over ....would've been in my element if Kindle had been invented 50 years ago!0

I read Twinkle and then Bunty, before realising that girlie comics were not for me! I moved onto Krazy (I had every edition of its short life) and then Whizzer & Chips when Krazy was merged into it.
I progressed onto Just 17 & Miss.:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
