    I'm still at it:

    * Clean kitchen with washable cloths and Stardrops. Shame I can't take a Karcher power washer to it. :rotfl:

    * Homemade toad-in-the-hole for dinner tonight with some of OH's frozen potato croquettes.

    * Eat gingerbread bought for Decemberfest.

    * Well Smurf Me! A Freecyler actually came on time to collect the tools I was giving away.

    * Took rolls out the freezer for tomorrow to have with a burger.

    Afternoon you lovely lot!

Quick question, I made pancake batter yesterday which includes sweetcorn & cheese but the mixture has gone grey in the fridge, is that normal? It passes my usual smell test but just looks awful.

Yes it's normal. The air has gotten into it. The grey comes from the oxidisation process. It's trying to turn itself into bread. Maybe cover with cling film next time.

If it smells fine, it is fine. However, if anyone in your house is pregnant/immune weakened etc I'd give it a miss if you are perturbed.

Thanks Ally, I did cover it with cling but unfortunately it didn't "cling" very well! ;)

Dampen the bowl you're covering before putting the clingfilm on, it'll stick better.
    Or
I'm told putting the clingfilm in the fridge for an hour before use improves the cling-osity.

I know the first method works; I don't know about the second.

  • Make_The_Change,

Sorry you're in a tight spot. Don't lose hope. It will get better and you are doing all the right things with setting out budgets etc. I have found some weird and wonderful food combinations at times like this in the past. You will get there financially. :)

Yes it is, as Ally says it is due to oxidation, no good this time but may be of use for the future after we have made batter for pancakes or waffles we transfer the batter into a jar to store in the fridge, I have saved a couple of the large jars you get olives in for this purpose. Give it a quick stir and it should look a lot better.
