Its been in the t&c's for years, it's hardly their fault you don't read or check what you signed up to...====0 -
My tariff is "O2 Simplicity Unlimited 12M 2GB", priced at £18/month, SIM only.
I asked about cancelling. , and they asked why. I said because of the price rise, and another operator was offering me a deal that cost £10.
I stated I wanted to terminate it on 31 March. They didn't quibble and didn't mention any fees or costs to do so.
Does that mean they have agreed to cancel without charging me for the rest of the contract? Or can they simply do that without saying anything.0 -
I note their site says "If you cancel before your contract has ended, we'll need 30 days' notice, and you may have to pay a charge."
So, does that mean they don't always charge for the remaining months? I'd have expected them to tell me I'd have to pay for them if I did.
Maybe I should initiate an online chat with them tomorrow, as I don't want to be caught out.0 -
Yorkie2, do you remember when you took the contract out? It may be that you are past the minimum term. My father had a 12 month contract that he was happy with when the minimum term expired so it carried on on a rolling basis, however the name of the tariff wasn't amended.
If you have an online account with them, your minimum term end date will be displayed there, so may save you a chat.0 -
Well I am not sure that this can be challenged but I certainly feel like writing a stiff letter CC'ing Ofcom in - I would like to know the justification of them putting it at 1.3% which is more than the reported 1.1% and with projections of the base rate of inflation due to plummit into possibly negative figures...
Also what the justification is for the rise in retail price when a service has stayed the same and a device or devices that has significantly dropped in value...
Question is it worth sending recorded delivery these letters, knowing full well they will be rejected and responses will be no, and then having to take it up with an Ombudsmen...0 -
They didn't tell me about the charge, but when I contacted them again (after the advice on here), they said I should have been told about the charge. If they don't cancel the charge, I'll go to the ombudsman.
Edit: they relented eventually! I last renewed the contract in November 2015 but it was SIM only, my argument was that I had no objection to them charging me the difference between the yearly rate and monthly rate for the rest of the contract, or a reasonable termination fee, but to say the whole amount was payable was unreasonable, and they had agreed by phone to terminate my contract without mentioning any charges and there was nothing on my online account to say charges would be applicable; I only found out about the charges because I read about them on MSE!0 -
