If someone else brought their child into a space I was getting changed in, I'm not going to cover up all of a sudden. That is their choice. Why on earth would you care? It's not like you're flashing their child for crying out loud you're in a space doing exactly what the space is designed for you to do.

I really don't understand this reaction.. What do you perceive the problem to be?

The question posed about whether genders were reversed is interesting also. What if a woman took a 7 year old boy into an all womans changing rooms?

Both of these scenario's are by the way in any gym or swimming pool I've ever been to, very common occurrences.

That it is inappropriate for a child of that age to be in a room full of naked strangers of the opposite sex

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • I agree with you. They may well be comfortable but it just doesnt sit right with me to have children in a room with naked adults that they are not known to

It is up to the parents. Why are you affected by it?

It would make me very uncomfortable.

"That it is inappropriate for a father to take their daughter to a changing room"

    I reworded it for you.

Can you not see that this is overly prudish?

It's not as if the child has been taken to a swingers party. The people aren't just sat in there naked swinging their junk around. There may be a few seconds of nudity whilst getting changed.

    We were all born naked.

When did this suddenly become a big deal to anyone?

Gosh I thought I was a bit old fashioned till I read this thread. I hated communal changing rooms when i was at school and I still do. My gym has single Sex communal changing rooms with vaguely private showers. I long ago decided I'd rather wind down by a swim and shower in my cossie in the communal showers by the pool. The changing area is communal but with individual changing rooms plus a few family changing rooms. I have no problem with communal toilets and have been known to go into the stalls marked gents when the ladies is occupied.

And I'm a bit puzzled - after you've been in the swimming pool for 30-40 minutes and showered off, why would you also need to shower at home?

The argument would seem to be that the showers aren't actually for getting clean in, but some sort of tip of the hat to cleanliness washing off a small amount of chlorine before getting home and repeating the cycle.

I go to the gym on the way to work. I suppose I'll have to stop showering properly, rush home under 4 layers of clothing, have another shower and then set off.

I do hope my work understand why I'm suddenly going to be 90 minutes late to work every day.

Some of the posts in this thread appear to be out of the dark ages!

Actually scratch that, we were more liberal back then I'd wager! :o

In your opinion. There are others who would not be comfortable with this at all. Why are you annoyed by people thinking differently to you?

Actually I would say when did it become alright to have children in an area with naked adults.

Yes that surprised me. I certainly never did.

It is just something I don't feel.is right and we all have things which make us uncomfortable.

Oh, I'm not annoyed in the slightest :-). Just interested in the rationale of someone who feels very differently to myself.

I'm not sure why "prudish" and "dark ages" and "liberal" are relevant.

There's nothing trendy about being naked, and nothing prudish about wearing clothes.

Its just what we are comfortable with.

No one is more 'hip' because they are happy to be naked in front of people.

Communal changing rooms are there because of space issues, some are happy to help with the expense, some aren't.
Never again will the wolf get so close to my door
