Maybe it does seem odd, bur some people like their privacy. I have never liked stripping off in front of others, even at school when the communal showers bothered no-one but me.

I think that people should do whatever they're comfortable with, so long as they don't make others uncomfortable when they do their own thing, which is what has happened to the OP and has been suggested by others here.

If you want to cover up, do so, but don't complain if others are happy to let it all hang out.

I don't. I appreciate that covering up is my choice. As long as others respect that too, then that's fine.

In reality, I would never, ever, use a communal changing room, or a sauna, so the situation would not arise.

I belong to a private health club and would never change in the (all female) changing room either. There are a couple of changing cubicles and prefer to wait til one of those is free.

the showers are all lockable cubicles but I still shower with my cossie on. Many women clearly take theirs off but also have their towel to hand to cover up afterwards.

I would say that the younger women change in the communal bit without worrying that someone might look at them. since I had breast reduction surgery recently, I wouldn't want anyone seeing my scars.

I went to a 5* hotel in Crete last year on holiday. One time I went into the sauna and a man sat in there completely naked, not only that he sat there with his legs wide open.

I remember in Turkey going to a Turkish bath and there were quite a few people in there at the same time, both male and female which is very unusual. Normally you are just in there with who you have gone with, and even then it can be two at a time, but this was a very large room.

You never know if there is going to be a male or female attending to you but on this occasion it was a man.

Eventually it was just members of my family left in the Turkish bath and a woman probably in her late fifties who had gone on her own and we were all sitting on the wet slab waiting for our massages. My daughter and I wore bikinis and the backs of these are usually undone so the back can be massaged and then done up again.

The woman with us was wearing a swimsuit and the attendant just pulled this to her waist.

I can imagine lots of women would be most unhappy if this happened even with a female attendant however the woman seemed more surprised than shocked. We spoke to her afterwards and she was ok with it - it was just so unexpected.

The worst thing for me is always the cold water that is thrown over you at the end - once it was with a hose! I could do without that.

and I bet he was more bothered than the child!!

My partner takes our girls swimming.. are dads not to take their children swimming? It's only a body, we all have one!! So long as the men weren't waggling their wares in the childs face or having some happy time.. so what??? I'm not bothered by my daughters seeing male bodies any more than I am my sons seeing female ones.. If aduls are happy walking about naked.. people ARE going to see them! Though men do seem to wander about naked a lot more than in necessary, as a generalisation.

Why would anyone be bothered about their skin being seen they have just been in what is essentially a giant bath with other peoples bodily fluids and sweaty bits and their dirt.. swilling themselves around in strangers sluiced off dead skin.. I think being seen naked is the least of their worries!!!

I don't really understand this concept of showering in a costume - especially in a cubicle with a lockable door. Communal showers - yes I think that's entirely understandable that some people would feel exposed when the shower is open to other users.

Unless you have a tiny towel then most bath towels will preserve MORE modesty than prancing through a changing room in a swimsuit .

I usually can't be bothered waiting for a changing cubicle and really can't be bothered doing the wriggling under the towel dance so just get dressed quickly - and get on with my day. I doubt anyone has ever noticed those few seconds my bits were exposed and if they did - so what- we all have bodies it's hardly a secret. I don't flaunt my body but I'm not going to treat it as something to be ashamed of either.

My OH happily wanders around naked when it's just us at home - nothing sexual just is more comfortable but I prefer to have something cotton as I find it more comfortable than skin - neither of us are bothered by the other's choices although I do grumble it's always me who has to answer the door to unexpected callers LOL.

He has gone to a local naturist beach a few times but we've not gone together - not because I have any huge objections to it but because it's rarely warm enough in England for the beach for me .

I would never remove my cossie, and I have never seen anyone else do so. I always thought the 'point' of showers after swimming was to wash your hair and rinse the chlorine off you. A proper wash is to be had at home.

Having said that, our swimming bath are all communal showers

The idea of sitting on a bench that someone else's naked butt had been on was rather abhorrent.
That also happens when you're wearing a cossie, you know.;) In either case, most people sit on a towel.
Just what I was going to say! Even in the rare cases where someone isn't sat on a towel, I am, so even if I sit where they've sat I'm not sitting where they sat IYSWIM.

Would you and your husband have been as shocked and upset if it had been a mother taking a boy into a female changing room full of naked women?

Are you assuming that all men are potentially deviants?

What do you expect parents to do at swimming pools, sports centres or any other place with a changing room if they have a child of the opposite sex?

What are parents supposed to do if they need to take their child to a toilet when out of the house? My husband often takes our 5 year old daughter into the gents, walking past men at the urinals in order to take her to a cubicle, so should I be appalled that he does this?

Sorry, but I really don't understand what problem you think there is.
