the new Nucs use a M.2 card as an addition to a std drive , those are like a cut down SSD
believe my , 16g of memory is a help on a fairly low output CPU
You don't need 16gb ram unless you're doing some serious computing! 8GB is fine. Anyway not sure how you calculate your prices:

and what size as your old hard drive , was / is your machine a laptop or a desktop?
the calculation on price was given from the link I gave you

Did you look at the link I gave you?0

yes , and it was a different model that I quoted for
link above for a cheap PC , or try ebay/amazon/ebuyer for a better one.
as you can see the Nucs come as barebones , IE no hard driver or memory , the latest ones enable 2 x drives ,Save a Rachael

before playing the i3/5/7 game you should remember that intel make lots of CPUs , look for the prefix after the number , i7s can and are often cut down and 2 core (u/T/k)

people buy the "i3/5/7" thing but often find that there laptop/nuc i7 has lower power than a i3 or even a basic PentiumSave a Rachael

Yes it was the older model you quoted.0 -
correct , the model I am using at the moment.
as you can see by either using your prices or mine , when you get to sub minicture units you are talking a lot of money
if you can consider reusing your old case etc , have you considered replacing the motherboard/cpu/memory (and posably the hard drive) by modern parts?
if you were to get a machine the same or of greater performance than the one you had and a lot quieter how much would you be willing to spend to upgrade it?
or are you adamant on a smaller unit?Save a Rachael

Do you like your NUC then? The size makes it tempting as it is portable. The Fujitsu Q556 works out a bit cheaper, any opinions on that one?0 -
firstly , the dell , only one step above a Amstrad pc1512 in terms of upgrading
the intel nuc , bought to do a specific purpose , sits on a Vesa mount behind a monitor and is used to run a task.
can,t comment on the Fujitsu Q556 , looks a lot bigger and as upgradable;e as your dell was when you come to that stage later on
I take it that your old posting ( https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5414723 ) where people went out of there way to find a PC for £100 is now closedSave a Rachael
