Which PC to buy?

My old core 2 duo packed in and I'm looking for a replacement, preferable small, like a Gigabyte Brix or a NUC. Can anyone recommend one? I'm thing an i3 processor would be fine for my needs. The Fujitsu Espiimo Q556 is one I've also been looking at. Quietness is important to me, I don't like noisy fans.

  • I'm no expert but having had Toshiba and HP laptops which were OK I now have a Samsung and am very happy with it. When it needs replacing I'll definitely get another Samsung. It's quiet and was reasonably priced. You might want to see what they have.
    Good luck.

I find that replacing the stock fans on a pc often helps with fan noise as the speed can be varied on better quality fans (about £10 for a good fan) but stock fans are often fixed speed

Why would I need 16gb ram? And I have hard drives from my old PC I can use.

ALL cpu fans that have 3 wires (inc stock ones) are adjustable IF the motherboard maker enables this option

the makers of CPUs (intel/AMD) spend millions of £ designing a fan/heatsink unit that will cope perfectly with the CPU they are supplied with

unless you are overclocking or have space restraints in a case the STANDARD fan/heatsink will be adequate.

most noisy PCs are ones that users have fitted "fancy" CPU fan/heatsink assemblies and have had to revert to about 5 case fans to help keep the heat down

in my case a sub miniature "sharkoon" case http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MLU5ZQQ?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00 with a Pentium g3258 overclocked to 4.3 g , std fan and heatsink works great

your drive from your old machine is what size ? and judging by the age of your unit , sata ?

the new Nucs use a M.2 card as an addition to a std drive , those are like a cut down SSD

believe my , 16g of memory is a help on a fairly low output CPU

  • If you just want to surf the internet do some office work and emails why would you need a bell's and whistle computer. you can get new computers for between £120 & £200 don't waist your money on an expensive one.
