Just wondered if anyone has successfully got WhatsApp to work on a Vista operating system?
I have downloaded an apk installer and launcher. It contains the following instructions, sorry about the detail.
"Before installing this program you must download and install Android SDK from Developer. android.com. Then run SDK Manager and install latest platform tools and at least one platform SDK and system image. Then run AVD Manager and create a virtual device. This program is tested with Android SDK 21.1, Android SDK Platform Tools 16, Android 2.1 and Android 4.2.2"
I think I have done all of that. However, on trying to fire up the WhatsApp launcher it says that App.exe cannot be found.
All of this in order to see the images of our new granddaughter, which my son can only send from his mobile to my wife's mobile using WhatsApp. Any ideas would be welcome.

Blimey that's complicated - I'd do all that stuff if I was developing an android app, but not to send or receive photos, it's making it 100 times harder than it need be. I would never ask someone that wasn't a software developer to install an SDK.
Can't he just email them from the phone, or post them on facebook with a limited list of people allowed to see them?Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
If he installs Viber, instead of Whatsapp, it works exactly the same but has a really good desktop app so you can use it with or without the phone.
I use both on my phone and it's no problem sending the same photo via both apps if different people want them.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use Whatsapp web?

It does require installing the Chrome browser though0 -
Thanks All, as always you give positive feedback.
danmanchester, I will look at your weblink. I did in fact install Google Chrome first, thinking that it was all that was required!!!

Why can't he just send the images through email? it would be alot easier.
Also if he thinks he can only send images through WhatsApp then it sounds like he has not backups of these important pictures. I would recommend he backs them up immediately!. I have seen so many people asking for help who have lost photos due to a phone breaking.0 -

My Galaxy S4 did out of the box, when powering on for the first when it asks for emails etc it set up dropbox at the same time.
A certain someone keeps telling me to install whatsapp, you canm send pictures for free, i have sent pictures for free ever since phones had some data allowance included.
Its called email.. As mentioned above email makes much more sense to me.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Because we have been in a similar situation, we tried Google Hangouts, Viber, Skype, Messenger and Facetime but because at the time, she was in the Middle East, Viber didn't work.
They are soon off to Cyprus and we intend using either Skype or Messenger. In my opinion, the sound and picture quality is better using Messenger.
I read somewhere that although Whatsapp is popular, it uses a lot of memory. Maybe it's right, maybe not.
Facetime is an iphone/ipad thing
Whatsapp isn't possible on ipads
I would suggest, you both install the same program, try it out, rate it then try another.
I too have vista on my laptop so use Windows
an ipad using ios
and now an smart phone using android
So I am having to adjust this very old brain to adapt to each system. As for messages, when they come through, it's like a peel of bells. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
