You really haven't touched any of my nerves.

I commented that I use the term 'train station' and bus station, and also made the point - agreeing with other posters - that I didn't agree that the term was 'infantile'.

Petra_70 specifically asked who thought 'bus station' was 'infantile so I corrected her and quoted your post.

It clarifies the difference between the place that buses depart from and where trains leave from.

Oh I am sorry Pollycat., if you thought I was aiming the 'silly' and 'ludicrous' remarks at you: I wasn't. :) I just wondered who was calling people infantile for saying 'bus station,' and I can see who it is now.
To a six year old maybe. As "station" has been the accepted shorthand for railway or railroad station for the last 150 years or more, an adult should not need the difference clarifying.

In the unlikely event that you are being serious. (Because I genuinely think you are taking the michael!) THIS is for you my dear gloomydoom. :p:p:p

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bus_station

    From the article>
A bus station is a structure where city or intercity buses stop to pick up and drop off passengers. It is larger than a bus stop, which is usually simply a place on the roadside, where buses can stop. It may be intended as a terminal station for a number of routes, or as a transfer station where the routes continue.

Now stop being a silly sausage. BUS STATION is what it is.

    You're such a wind-up-merchant!

You're giving us all a giggle though. 'Where the buses come and go and congregate, is NOT a bus station.' :rotfl:

    Oh you're funny! :rotfl:

The next thing you will be saying, is the place where they have lots of shops indoors, isn't an 'indoor shopping centre!' ROFL LMAO! :rotfl:

    (also job adverts)
I have just sent of lots of job applications and stated I am a team player who can work on their own initiative (or something very similar). I do try to avoid the well worn phrases when describing myself or my previous job role but if the cap fits....

I know this thread was for pronounced words rather than written but I have seen yet another post saying 'collage' when it should be 'college'. This irritates me so much and more so when the poster actually attends college and therefore must see the correctly spelled 'college' when they walk through the doors!

They are still shopping centres !!!!!!!

Is this 'pedantic Wednesday' or are you taking the michael too?

The place where there are lots of shops is generally called a shopping centre ... FGS, some people will contradict ANYthing just for the sake of an argument!

    Telford Shopping Centre, Telford.
    Mander Shopping Centre, Wolverhampton.
    Merry Hill Shopping Centre, Dudley.
    Meadows Shopping Centre, Chelmsford.
    Brent Cross Shopping Centre, Barnet
Ealing Broadway Shopping Centre, West London
    The Market Shopping Centre Crewe.
    Potteries Shopping Centre, Hanley/Stoke.

I could easily find a bunch more.

But I can't be bothered with this pathetic and pointless arguing and one upmanship!

And it's not shopping MALL; we are not in America as someone spouted back in the thread when someone said airplane!

Go on, contradict and argue with what I have said up there. ^^^

Some people argue and contradict, even when they are clearly and obviously wrong. Just for the sake of arguing.

I think some people need to get out more. ;)

Couple for me. When people/press add gate to anything to signify a scandal because of the Nixon Watergate scandal years ago- it was called the Watergate scandal because of the hotel and I find this adding of gate lazy and annoying journalism.

Also when people say I'll give 110% or I agree 110%

That stupid middle aged woman on the Vistaprint advert who says that it 'looks proper'. She just sounds ridiculous... annoys the hell out of me!
