Strangers money appears in my account

I have had money from the DWP paid into my account with an unknown National Insurance number with CA beside it. £128.00
Who do I phone? Will the DWP just write to me and then remove the money? Concerned another person's money has went into my account!

You should inform your bank.0

I've just checked our accounts, and entries for Carer's Allowance show as:
NINUMBEROFRECIPIENT DWP CA
Is it similar?:heartpuls Mrs Marleyboy :heartpuls
MSE: many of the benefits of a helpful family, without disadvantages like having to compete for the tv remoteProud Parents to an Aut-some son

Yeah that is how it appears.0

You cannot keep it, that would be theft.
Report to your bank, let them deal with it. Happens more often then people think0 -

I would imagine that either the claimant of the CA or the DWP miskeyed the bank account number to which the money should be directed.
I think I would be inclined to contact the DWP (0345 608 4321)- otherwise I can see the cash being returned to DWP and then an endless cycle of the money appearing/being returned.....:eek:0 -
I gave them a email. Will call them on Monday. Hopefully this does not turn into a farce!0

DWP won't just be able to claw back money which has been paid into a wrong account. If the claimant provided wrong, but valid, details they will have jump through all sorts of hoops to get a new payment. If DWP input the details wrong the money will probably just be written off due to the problems getting it back.0 -
I think they will recover it.. They can show the o/p (clearly an honest person doing their best) knew they were not due it.0

I hope they don't just write it off! If they do will surrender it to the local food bank in shopping.0
