Well gosh darn it do I feel silly. Turns out that you need a DVD burner to copy avi files onto disk so I can't send mom my home movies just yet.
I know absolutely nothing about DVD burners. Which one should I get? How much are we talking here?

If you're happy to fit an internal drive (and it is dead easy to do) then just pick one of these.

I've used Lite-on, Pioneer and NEC drives int he past and they've all been fine.
Some external ones here if you need an extrenal one

Ummm...what's internal and external mean in this context? What's the difference?0

Hi
An internal drive fits into a bay (slot) in your computer.
An external one plugs into a socket on your computer and is connected through a wire. It can be unplugged when you're not using it.

I wouldn't recomment LiteOn, I had one a fews years ago and the media compatability was awful. I'd go for a NEC or Pioneer, I have both and they're excellent.0

Thanks for your help everyone

How much should I spend do you think?0 -
Internally, £20 or so is sufficient. I tend to go for Samsung or LG as I had no problems with either. Both are keenly priced and with the latest technology.
External, up to £40.
Incidentally, you don't need to have a DVD burner. A CD burner will suffice. Do you have one?0 -
I have had a LG external dvd burner for a few years now ,had no problems with it at all and it came with Cyberlink Dvd Solutions as well free .
You need to find out if you have room inside your tower to install a dvd burner. I only got a external cause i didnt want to fuss about installing a internal one .0 -
This depends in the size of the flie a cd will hold 700mb a dvd up to 4 gbInternally, £20 or so is sufficient. I tend to go for Samsung or LG as I had no problems with either. Both are keenly priced and with the latest technology.
