O/S Daily Thursday 18 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, he’s on half term hols.

Still dark, but looks damp underfoot but not sure about a frost.

Dinner last night was chicken, bacon and mushrooms in a creamy chicken sauce, served with HM egg and veg fried rice, ice cream for dessert. Tonight we’re going to have egg, bacon, sausages, hash browns, mushrooms, beans and toast.

Work yesterday was steady, so the morning passed quite quickly. Now on days’ off and back to work on Monday.

Spent some time yesterday afternoon researching home insurance quotes as had our renewal docs arrive and it’s gone up yet again (even though we’ve never claimed) and there was a whole list of other companies that offered a best priced premium – I found quotes and cover I was happy with, then rang my current insurer to ask them to look at the renewal premium to do a price match – they couldn’t come anywhere close and I then did an online new customer quote and that was over another £100 more expensive – decided it was time to part company – I’m more than happy with the company and premium I’ve secured. The company is one of the big names and the cover is the same as my renewal, saved myself £66 per annum. I’ve also been researching my mobile phone contract – the tied in 24 months contract finishes in May – I don’t particularly want to upgrade the phone – there’s nothing wrong with it and I don’t use loads of apps on it, it’s mainly used for texts, taking photos and being able to contact/be contacted by boys, hubby and family – the contract is costing me quite a bit per month, and I can get a sim only contract starting at £9 per month, unlimited texts, 300 minutes phone calls and some data – I’ve never used any more than 10-15 minutes of phone calls and not much data, that would be on a year’s contract or they do offer 30 day contracts but prices are a bit higher – will be visiting the shop before making a final decision. But I’ll be looking at making approx. £25 per month saving if I go with a sim only contract. So had my moneysaving head on yesterday – result!

Today I’ll be doing all the normal chores.

Keep safe and well x

    Good morning everyone

Thank you nmlc for starting this thread. You sound like you had a very productive day yesterday, very moneysaving :)

I got up early after a disturbing dream about my grandma who has been gone for very many years now. Anyway, I needed to shake it off with a cup of tea and a cuddle with the dog. Hubby has gone off to work ok and I feel a bit better now.

I didn't get round to dyeing my hair so that will be done this morning once my lovely DD14 surfaces. The house will need a good clean today as well so I will give everyone a room to do. This works out the best usually and gets the house clean in an hour or so.

The grandchildren will be coming over again today. They came for an hour yesterday but they were very tired as they have a new baby brother from their Dad and StepMum and he cried a lot :D:D. He looks absolutely scrummy though with chubby cheeks and a little bit of hair. I think the grandkids were very pleased to go home and sleep through the night.

I will be letting the girls choose what they want for tea today. We have plenty in so they can go and be hunter gatherers in the freezers and cupboards. I will be roasting some veg for my tea, I was going to have some salmon with it but it went off yesterday. I will dig out some chicken instead and have it with some lemon and garlic.

Well that's all from me today, hope you have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Sorry to hear of the accidents yesterday LW and JackieO, thank goodness no-one has been hurt.

I had a normal wedding dress, long and white at the start but the weather was so wet and windy the bottom of the dress was decidedly grey at the end. My Mum washed the dress in her very ancient top loading machine (with a mangle you could put on) and it came up lovely and white again. Lots of uniforms at our wedding too as DH was in the Navy.

Went for a swim after work yesterday, I think someone had filled it with treacle - that or the sausages I had for lunch were a bit much! Still, I made the effort.

Not much happening today, no washing to do but will put the DW on when I get home later.

Hope you are all well, Lainey how are you today? Take care. XX

    Morning :hello:

My yarn arrived yesterday. I spent a while happily dividing it up into projects – that's for cushion covers, that's for baby blankets, that's for Christmas things........... :D

Mum and dad are popping round with my Little Mate (my nephew) at about 11am. I'm hoping to have the housework done before they arrive, once I've sat down and relaxed I find it difficult to get back up again and get on with things :D

I'll vacuum and dust upstairs and water the plants, if I don't manage anything else on today's list then it'll just have to wait til tomorrow, lol.

    Morning everyone.

The light is just coming through the night sky and it's blue'ish. We may have a rain free day.

I finally bought some lino yesterday after 1) finding the shop open and 2) masking my mind up quickly. The space is so small - 2m x 2m and that's edge to edge st the widest part. There will be so much wastage because of the shape. It's bring fitted on 07 March as I couldn't do the one day they had free next week.

My little walk yesterday was so good, I felt so much better for it so will going out again this morning even though the forecast is for cloud.

Food will be the remaining beef strips and a pile of veggies. I need some cauliflower so may go out to get one from the local butcher / greengrocer. Apart from that nothing else planned.

My new and hated iPad cover could be going back, only because I found that the charger can't be used with it. The hole is there but the plug won't go all the way into the machine because the hole isn't big enough. I'm so pleased!

Anyway, I wish everyone a good Thursday.

    Morning all,

Cold here again but no rain atm off to work for me and it will be a busy day again yesterday was manic and I do have to say that I am very tired and cant wait till the weekend !

Something and chips for dinner tonight will go and rummage in the freezer after this, I need to do a wash tonight and the shopping is being delivered.

Hope JackieO and Mr LW are ok and no lasting damage x

Right better get on have good days all xx
  • Morning all. A bit of a miserable start hereabouts but I think set to improve! I never got back on last night after my day out so just had a whizz through yesterday's posts. Oh a day for accidents. Hope there are no after effects for Mr LW and JACKIE x

My day out with my friend was enjoyable, as always. Sadly not many stalls had set up but we contended ourselves with the charity shops! I succumbed to two books I didn't need but at BOGOF I was tempted! I must stop buying more books until I get through my massive backlog! As always a nice lunch was enjoyed and the bottle of wine went down well. We were both ready for nodding off on the bus back! She's had a rescue springer for about 18 months and has been really struggling with the dog's nervousness when out. She's tried loads of suggestions, herbal remedies etc but her latest purchase seems to be helping. I thought this might be of interest to those of you with nervous dogs. It's a thunder shirt (about £30 so not cheap) and she says so far it's really helping control the dog's anxiety when out for walks. She has her fingers crossed.

Our early appointment with our GP for Mr TA went ok. Amongst things discussed was his muscle loss brought on when he lost so much weight so quickly last year. No magic cure for that sadly, just try and exercise his legs more. When the weather picks up we'll try and get back into some gentle walking.

Today is food shopping day but I don't think we need much so just a trip to Aldi will do. Just bread, dairy and more fruit and veg should suffice.

This afternoon I really must tackle the huge ironing pile that's getting ever bigger! Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx

    Morning all,

Overcast and wet here but at least no snow, hopefully it will brighten up later and we will see some sun.

Virus has well and truly broken, nose will not stop running now and has kept me up most of the night, am hoping this means it's working its way out, my Grandma always said that flu took 3 days coming, 3 days here and 3 days going, should feel better by the weekend then.

JackieO glad to hear you are all ok and have had good service form your Insurance company when you needed it most.

Hope everyone has a good day x

    Morning all.

Nmlc you have been productive! Every year when our household insurance is due it's checked to see if it's competitive and it is. First time it isn't and we will be off.

Hubby and I have been with 3 for our mobile contracts for a few years now. They are about £18 a month. They don't come out of my bank account so I might be a £ or 2 out but they are the most competitive for our needs. We both have the same contracts but mine is unlimited data whereas his has unlimited calls. I rarely use the phone or texts but hammer the data. As a family we use WhatsApp to contact eachother. Youngest has recently taken out his own contract. His Dad paid for it up till recently so that is a saving taken care of.

Waiting for the heating to come on before I get out of bed. It's blasted cold!

It's my little man day today. Love every bit of him but God is he hard work.

No nightmares in the night. I'm pleased about that.

Ginge is fine...wish she wouldn't scoot on her sore bum though.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

I've made hubby's packup and taken him to work, I'm going to collect two of the DGC today, I have lots of craft things for them to get on with.

I have just one more seam on my taggsie to finish & then I can pass it on to the purchaser.

I have all 81 of my crochet squares started, 60 are finished the rest are waiting for another one or two rounds. I still have to edge them all and I'm looking at the join as you go to see if I can master it.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hugs Hester

  • Good morning everyone, I am hoping for a more peaceful day today :):):) my life is nothing if not eventful :):).

Looks very grey and foggy outside and not very warm so I shall be tucked up with the tv and my knitting this morning.Nothing to shop for and my son-in-law is working from home so I have a couple of days free.
might have a rearrange of some cupboards later if I feel in the mood Just waiting for Enterprise to ring and say when they will deliver my courtesy car as my own will go in for repair later today.

I have already decluttered a good bit of my paperwork from my study as it was starting to mount up again.very satisfying tearing up old letters that are no longer needed.

Hope everyone is warm ,safe and dry
    Cheers chums
    JackieO xx
