Carphone warehouse deception
I received a call from carphone warehouse regarding an upgrade. I was asked how I liked the sound of half price line rental to which I replied "That sounds alright". When the caller explained about the redemption, I told him I wasn't interested. He said he would post out the details for me to have a look at, to which I replied OK. A week or so later I get a letter thanking me for upgrading. I phoned CPW and explained I hadn't agreed to an upgrade. They said they would have to listen to what was actualy said and would call back. A short while later the original caller phoned back and and said there wasnt really anything he could do as I was outside the seven day cancellation period and wouldn't acknowledge that I hadn't agreed other than that there may have been a misunderstanding on my part. I told him that it was a seven working day cooling off period and as this was the seventh day to cancel. He called back later to confirm that he cancelled it. I now find out, that it hasn't been cancelled and the original caller is denying that he cancelled, stating that I was outside the seven days and that he never called back to confirm cancellation. Customer services are of no help. E mails dont get answered. I have written recorded delivery. They take 3 weeks to reply. My latest reply states that I appear to have agreed to the upgrade. I have requested a copy of the recording but as yet haven't received it. I have found CPW to be the worst company I have ever dealt with, finding them extremely unhelpful and obstructive. This has been going on since early June. Totally unacceptable for any company to treat customers in this way.

hi misterb,
i have never trusted cpw, but anyway have you tried Charles Dunstone's department (the executive) I have contacted them through this a couple of times and have found them quite helpful (lol but could be better :P - but hey better than normal customer service) have had replies within a day or so of emailing them. Hopefully this helps
Let me Know
Jamie

Yes and try as I could I could never get through to him when I needed to complain. I even sent four letters marked personal and confidential to their directors all of which were totally ignored.
I am sure they are proud of that.0 -

Cheers Jamie, will give that a try. However I'm dying to know whats on the recording that could possibly be interpreted as agreeing to an upgrade. Will be sending off another request for a copy by special delivery as the last request never arrived, even though sent recorded.0 -
Mr Dunstone doesn't always reply. I sent him emails before they he never replied.
As to the upgrade, you should have recorded the call in the first place, that way you would have had the evidence.0 -
If cpw do send out their copy of the conversation you can bet it will have been 'tampered' with.0

Not really practical to record phone calls, especially on a mobile. I don't normally agree to anything over the phone, I always ask for written details if it's something I'm considering. You just don't expect this sort of deception.Mr Dunstone doesn't always reply. I sent him emails before they he never replied.

Car Phone warehouse do seem to be getting a bit of a reputation they have just refused me a contract via email because I went through greasy Palm. I rang they let me have it but gave me another order number so I could not get cashback!!0

In what way did they refuse you via email. Was it something they have actually told you or was it that the online form kept rejecting your request?Car Phone warehouse do seem to be getting a bit of a reputation they have just refused me a contract via email because I went through greasy Palm. If CPW are advertised on greasypalm it seems strange that they would not want people to purchase via greasypalm0
