You are objecting to people defining precisely what they are talking about, rather than being wrong by a factor of 8 or a million, or whatever? Surely not...

That's the 2006 release, which is sooooo out of date!

(But actually it is important to use the correct terminology.)

You can of course keep going on old versions of Windows indefinitely if you want to. It's just that as the years pass it won't be very convenient, as you'll be unable to install new versions of other applications, and your system will become insecure online.

The same applies even to Linux, though as there are so many different distros and it's generally more configurable, people probably don't feel so railroaded into upgrading to a system they don't like.

There are quite a few rolling-release Linux distributions, so you never need to install a new version of the OS; you just upgrade the various components incrementally (or not, if you prefer).

Whilst I'm primarily a Mac Mini user I did buy a cheap HP Notebook from Sainsbury's in their January sales.

Granted the (limited) specs won't set the world alight but Windows 10 is what Windows 8/8.1 should've been (IMHO).

It boots up/shuts down nice and quickly and apart from an update that refused to install at first I've (touchwood) not had any issues w/W10.

I've been using Windows 10 since it came out and really like it now - fast and stable.

I haven't had any 'blue screens of death' or crashes, and the upgrade from Windows 7 was great as unlike other upgrades it worked 'in place' so a complete system refresh wasn't required.

The only real issue I have is the fact that it wakes itself up to check for updates, and doesn't put the PC back to sleep again after the check. The only solution for this is to disable the Windows Update service. Not a pain as I prefer to update manually anyway.

Other than that, fine, and I'm used to it now.

Yeah its 2006! You need the 2016 version! It may be no faster and have exactly the same insides as the old one but its got a brand new title page and a shiny new sticker on the front! Its an upgrade, innit!

It may incessently spy on you and force driver updates on you whether you like it or not but...but... its an upgrade!
Got to have upgrades or you're a luddite! Its a no-brainer! Duh!

Its free, yeah right. If you mean constantly sending back private data about you including contents of your emails and forcing changes on you whether you want them or not then thats not any freedom I recognise, quite the opposite infact.
