LOVE ME, LOVE MY NEWFOUNDLAND.:A0 -
I have no respect for the police and I will briefly describe some incidents that I had better claim happened to "friends" to protect myself.
THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED THIS SUMMER...
1-My mum had tenents in her house who would not pay the rent. Under these stupid UK laws, my mum was not allowed to kick them out. She had to wait months for them to leave. When they left they papered up the windows and removed all but an old sofa. (Weird). So my mum entered HER house and much to her surprise had a copper knock on the door. Turned out the old tenants where over in a house across the street and had waited for her arrival. The policeman said that she would be arrested if she did not exit the property because their legal notice had not yet expired despite the fact that they did not pay the rent and had allowed kids to vandlise the rear of the property. So my mum had to watch her house be slowly abused over the next few weeks. I asked the copper how he could carry on doing the job, his response was, " well it wasn't like this 20 years ago". SO WHY ARE YOU STILL DOING IT??
2-I had some kids vandalise my conservatory on several occasions. I called the police and they kept ushering them away without even a caution. So I took a picture of the youths and told the police to come and get the evidence. A policemen came round and said that IT WAS AGAINST THE VANDALS HUMAN RIGHTS for me to take his picture because he was on a public playing field. I asked the policeman what I should do, he said, "move to New Zealand"!!!!!
3-I got caught doing 35mph, yes 35 in a 30. EVERY day without fail I see pretty much every car exceeding this limit, including police cars. So I contacted the police and asked for evidence. They said that they do not even have to provide any. I have researched this and they are right. I don't even know if it was me! Guilty until proven, urmm, guilty.
4-I was on a nature reserve car park in my car with a friend in the evening. A police car came down and switched on his search light, shining it on my car. He just waited for me to have to get out and ask what the hell he was playing at. He couldn't accept the fact that my mate and I where just having a chat. He said, "yeah right, you're not exactly bird watching, so what are ou doing". I promptly responded with, "we're looking for Owls". Pr*ck.
5-This is a common one that you can all relate to. I hate people speeding, (I mean 40 upwards), past schools etc. I never speed past a school; it's stupidity. But having driven past most of the towns local schools and on into the countryside the other day, I was shocked to find a police camera van parked miles from the nearest child/house on the open road. And they say they are not out to just catch people..........
Apologies for the rant.0 -
The actual wording used in the Highway code with regards to an amber traffic light is:
AMBER means 'Stop' at the stopline. You may go on only if the AMBER appears after you have crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to pull up might cause an accident"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -
It would be a good idea if your friend slowed as he approached traffic lights - WHATEVER colour signal is showing, certanly enough to stop, when they change. It is amber = STOP & even if approaching on green, we all know what colour is next.
Get him to release the accelerator pedal & cover the brake pedal insted. regardless of his skills, you don't always know if there is other traffic about to run the lights, from other access points.
As for the tyre, if the officer wanted to be stroppy, he might have suggested pulling off the highway & changing the tyre - lucky he gave a warning & saved some points & fine.
Attitude of the officer, is debateable. A sensible way to difuse a sitution is simply to prevent it getting anywhere, so telling you to take a walk, would be reasonable.
Seat belts? Again, no offence was recorded & no action was taken.
If you REALLY feel hard done by, the complaints procedure is there for you.
Personally I'd keep it a story to tell your mates & leave it at that.
Your mate should feel lucky he wasn't given a 'ticket' & be pleased there is an active Police presesnce, especially targeting the drivers you mentioned.
If I were an officer, I'd be 'pulling' so many of these vehicles AND issuing the appropriate notices, to get the vehicles rectified, the drivers aware of their actions & help improve safe motoring for all.

Thank you for your negative responce.
Its still your right of way and many people do it,
What do you feel was negative re conors comments?
Right of way is not something you have, it is something you're given!
The approach to traffic lights should be at a speed which will not cause loss of control if one has to brake sharply.Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
I had one on the M62 pull straight out into the middle lane whilst I was in it. The indicator came on and the front of my car was pretty much inches from the end of his lorry, I thought ok he want's to move out but I'm so close he can't expect me to brake when I'm in the middle lane and there's nothing behind me. But, out he pulled forcing me into the outside lane, in which luckily there was nothing there.Davidboy i havent found a car thats willing to let out a lorry yet!!
Something I was taught in my driving lessons
MSM
Mirror
Signal
Manouevere
Basically (for those unsure), you look in the mirror and see if it is safe to move out, you then signal your intention and then move out. In other words signalling then immediately moving out with complete disregard for all road users would fail your driving test.0 -
There's something which cops and associated staff know about called the "attitude test". It very often determines how you're dealt with.
You and your mate failed it.0 -
Another rant while we're on the subject...
If the police want us to be 100% perfect drivers all of the time, they should lead by example and be whiter than white themselves.
This is not the case where I live. I regularly see police cars (not on emergency calls) breaking 30mph speed limits by more than 10mph, failing to indicate when they turn, going right up the backside of the car in front, parking in the disabled bay at Asda to pop in a buy a sandwich, and generally driving like discourteous and impatient thugs.
Only last week I was driving along, rigidly sticking to the 30mph limit because a cop car was behind me. He came really close and appeared to be shouting "come on, come on", and waving his hands at me. I edged up to 32mph because I felt initimidated and he came even closer. I felt like I was in a lose-lose situation, like I was being bullied into breaking the limit by the very people that take such pleasure in enforcing it. Now I wish with hindsight I had got his number plate and reported him, but obviously my word would never have stood up against his.
I bet half of these police drivers would be banned themselves if they were subjected to the same scrutiny they dish out to ordinary motorists.

I found the forum years ago, and though there were a lot of reasonable posters, there were a few who would post along the lines of "I saw a kiddy in a car with neon lights on it the other day, what laws could I pull him up on?"There's one part of this forum that's a scenario based bit - one person posts a scenario and asks what others would do in that situation. So many people on there who were both PCs and PCSOs posted replies with the phrase "I would use my powers...." (seriously) and this (and other worrying superhero-based comments) made me realise what a load of thugs they were, and I've decided that I don't want to be involved with the organisation at all.
Brilliant story, I was laughing at that!He then 'explained' that i 'was going to remove them, and i was going to do it NOW'. Again i explained i had NO IDEA how on earth they were plugged in/controlled and didnt know how to remove them. I said the the officer i could remove them as soon as i got home as my dad (good with electrics) could remove them for me. Again he told me 'You DO KNOW BECAUSE YOU FITTED THEM ! REMOVE THEM NOW!'. So.. i had to get out the car open my bonnet... with about 60 people staring... and look for any wire that remotely looked like it headed in the direction of the washers. I asked the officer 'could you give me a hand, i REALLY dont have a clue what wires im pulling it may be dangerous, and i dont know what to do' . He replied 'Im not a mechanic i dont know NOW GET THEM OFF'. and he glared at me from his window. so i just grabbed a bunch of wires and ripped them out... luckily the lights went off.Happy chappy0 -

didn't anyone teach you manners? it's rude to wear hats indoors (and in my opinion, indoors means inside a car).
maybe take your hat off when in a car, and your friend won't get pulled!
