Police stopped me.

to be honest guys i think its clear that the OP was saying the lights changed to amber as they went through them.
Nova, I didn't get that impression at all, he was responding to an accusation that the driver had went through a red light and said that the light had changed at the last second, to me that suggests it changed to Red, otherwise surely he would have said "but he didn't go through a red, it was green and only changed to amber as we went through."
I think the advice to keep his mouth shut was perfectly good, it had nothing to do with him, they weren't wanting to talk to him and he could have easly annoyed them enough that they would take it out on his mate by not just letting him off with a warning.Bought, not Brought0 -
"andrewriley", if you want to stay out of trouble then I've learnt it's best to have the "yes sir no sir" attitude when dealing with the police

I've been caught for various motoring offences, and even when I knew that the officer was wrong I still just bit my lip, apologised - and got off scott free!!
Of course the best course of action is to avoid breaking any laws in the firts place...:A0 -

Yes but you got to feel sorry for those with white cars

Thank you for your negative responce.
However my driving tutors and my other driving instructors have said if the lights change last minute and you are not within stopping distance to proceed through. Its still your right of way and many people do it, most people go through on dead amber, but this was different.
Traffic lights have to have a legally required minimum time they're on amber before red. This time is sufficient to bring the vehicle to rest. So no, it wasn't different than any other of the 10,000's of traffic lights in this country.
If your instructors are truly telling you what you've posted above, you need to change driving school. What they should be telling you to do is approach traffic lights being prepared to stop. YOU WILL FAIL YOUR TEST FOR JUMPING A RED LIGHT no matter how close you were to it when it changed to red.
Completely irrelevent. As the driver of the vehicle, it's roadworthiness and compliance with the Road Traffic Act is solely his responsibility.andrewriley87 wrote: »I know about bold tyres, but he friend did not,
If the standard of driving I've witnessed on the A483 is anything to go by, they need to.andrewriley87 wrote: »North wales police are clamping down on young drivers, both wearing hats at night. Because they did him a BIG favour by ticking him off and letting him know they'd seen him and his dodgy tyres.
Alternatively, they could have issued him with FPNs for jumping the light and the bald tyre which, as a newly qualified driver, would mean a loss of licence as it's 3 points for each.
Which would you have preferred they did?
And all young drivers get tugged by the Police. It happened when I was 17 and it still happens. Get used to it.0 -
Thats typical from a lorry driver, no compassion or thought to anyone, 90% of which who are rude and arrogant to all other road users.
Mr lorry driver do you know you are suppose to LOOK in your mirror before overtaking on a motorway? Cos I aint found one that does yet!!
D
Are you dead? No. So obviously they do.
And as we have the lowest number of accidents per km of ALL road user groups, you should get your own house in order first before having a go.0 -

RED means stop.
You dont have time to stop, wether there is anything behind you or anything.
You can cause an incident,
If you are commited to go through from a small distance and you cannot stop then you proceed through, you dont normaly have time to look around to notice at traffic lights..
If you have commited yourself to go through then you go through.
You probably do it, everyone else does.
It is a good question about the amber lights. I think everybody must know about it, my instructor has said about if its touch and go if it changes last minute then go through.
I am here on this site for help, not abuse,
Your instructor is wrong.
If you've not got time to look around to notice at traffic lights, you're driving too fast for the conditions.
If people rearend you, it's because they were driving too close.0 -
Couldn't agree more. Sounds like the [strike]tax collectors[/strike] police were simply cruising around on a revenue-raising exercise, looking for the softest and most lucrative targets they could find.
Of course they were.
That's why they didn't issue FPNs for the bald tyre and jumping the red light.0 -

This is not an acceptable way for a police force to operate. This kind of behaviour is discriminatory and it does not bode well for sound policing ethics. It's the kind of behaviour that earns the police disrespect and police officers should note that, modify their behaviour, and learn from this injustice that respect is earned through trust.0
