O2/Lowell

Options
Hi all,

Mortgage application rejected... apparently experian don't report the same info as equifax. So i now begin the tedious task of amending everything on experian, at £14.99 a month:mad:

To start with...

A default for £19 from Lowell Portfolio. Settled March 2015. Defaulted the year prior. I paid this as soon as i recieved the letter. I had just moved in with my parents in order to get my life straight financially and paid anything i was asked to to just make it go away.

So i contact Lowell who inform me that this default relates to an o2 account. Now my O2 phone contract that ran between 2011 and July 2012 shows up on my credit files as paid on time every month until it was closed....

Lowell inform me that i then somehow defaulted on this account in March 2014.... I am very confused. Lowell said they can't do anything, o2 need 10 working days to respond.... all the while my mortgage broker wants to strangle me!

Any advice?

  • Update.

Just spoken to Lowell who have said it's likely charges that o2 didn't take as the account was closed and direct debit canclled. I have contacted o2 but they have said they do not hold billing information for that long ago. He checked with his manager and it can't be removed.

I'm gutted. They've also said they can't amend the default to show the end of the contract which would at least buy me two years. I'm going to pieces. I can't spend another four years living at home with my daughter.

I would also contact o2 again and re-iterate that your account is showing in your closed/settled section. If it is that account that they are referring to has been defaulted, why is it in that section?

Are you sure you haven't been the victim of ID theft? An ex or someone taking out a contract in your name?

It's highly unlikely that it would take 2 years for them to default your account. You need to put pressure on o2 to find the paperwork relating to this default. If they can't, then it needs to be removed.

  • Don't stress too much. I've spent a good few years repairing the damage I did in my 20's. I've still got a default showing on my credit report for EE and I've passed the credit stage of my mortgage application.

Some banks don't pay that much attention to phone defaults and others disregard after 2/3 years- all depends on the lender.
  • Your broker should still be able to find a lender for you so try not to lose heart just yet.

  • Our broker found us a lender based on my Equifax report. Which shows 1 of the 5 defaults shown on experian. He's now advised that we're looking at 15% deposit. :(

    Will keep trying 02

  • If it's just a small default relating to a phone bill and you have no other credit issues then 15% sounds like they've gone straight to a sub-prime lender which could be overkill.

That said, it always comes down to the finer detail so is hard to comment on your specific case.

  • The rest of my report isn't so great either. This has just tipped me over the edge with it. Can't face the idea of waiting four years to get on the ladder
