  • My son got 111 we are absolutely thrilled as this is higher than we were expecting! We had hoped for over 100 so lots of celebrations here

My DS was crying as he expected more than 115. He was getting full marks in some tests but nerves over.....

We have told him he has done very well but he still feels low.. Think I will not mention it any more.

Doesn't sound out of range to me, depending on the other kids in his time slot.
My son was in a similar position - practice papers in the 90s to 100 range. Result was in the high teens. He was spitting about it.

But roll forward a few years and he has A*s and As at GCSE (weighted towards the A*s) and is working on 4 A levels and his university plans.

Reassure your son. It's a good result - good enough to get in anywhere with no question, and that is really all that counts

Thank you. He has calmed down. His cousin got 114 and came out with 10 A stars in GCSE. The teacher had told him that his practice papers were so good that he'd get 120+ that is why he was devastated.

Oh dear. Professionals get it wrong sometimes, even when they know better. Should have left it at "you're doing fine and should have no problems getting into the school you want."
  • 104 for DD - really pleased. She had been very consistent throughout but never had that climb in marks that others around her seemed to have which worried me. She should get in all being well to her first choice which has been 97 for last two years and 99 the year before. Surely it won't jump up near 104...?!? There's always a possibility I suppose...
Such a hard and terrible process and so hard for our kids. No matter what she got, we would have been so proud of her but my heart goes out to those who haven't achieved what they hoped and those who are just a few marks out. It just doesn't seem fair to put them (and us) through all this when there is so much data available on our kids across p6 and p7 that should indicate very clearly if they are grammar-suitable.

Very unlikely to jump more than a point or so

It's really unpredictable, what the scores are likely to be for a particular school. It seems to be driven mostly by the number of applicants. More applicants than usual will push the scores up, while fewer applicants will drag the scores down.
  • hi can anyone guide me to what I need to be doing with my daughter shes p6 doing Gl in November, I need to know what test papers to get thanks:j
  • I've requested raw scores for my daughter's 104 - planning to post these up along with her birth month. Know past forums have done this and I found it helpful as knew what she had the potential to get seeing how she did in past papers versus actual raw scores in previous years and it was right in line with this. If you email the aqe office or phone them they send a simple form you fill in and return to them. Think there is a few weeks till you get them. Anyone else going to do the same? It should help the following few years to get a better handle on what type of scores they should be getting in past papers :) Plus daughter is dying to know what paper was her best lol
