I really want some real life crumble and custard now too!

Do you make your own pastry too C0nfused? The only quiche I ever made years ago was a disaster and I've not attempted one since! Yours sound lovely. :)

No, I cheat and get ready rolled pastry from Tescos.... You should try it again.. I literally hadn't baked one ever, and I found a recipe and tried it and it worked and I've made several since, making up what to put in it.. I'll put the recipe here so you can give it a go:

You will need a quiche tin and ceramic baking beans (you can use uncooked rice as an alternative but I wouldn't want to have to scoop them out of it, the baking beans work great and are reusable. Baking paper (cut in a circle to go inside the pastry)

    Ham and Cheese Quiche

1 box Jus Roll Shortcrust Pastry (or similar) - the jus roll stuff needs to be out of fridge 45 minutes before use
2 cups of diced fully cooked ham
2 cups (8oz) grated cheddar cheese
    1 teaspoon of grounded onion
    4 large eggs
Most of larger pot of single cream
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1/4 teaspoon pepper

    Directions

    Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Line the quiche tin with the unrolled pastry, fill in gaps with the excess pastry from the edges. Put in the baking paper to cover the base of the pastry and cover with the baking beans, which will weigh it down.

Bake for 10 - 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove baking beans and baking paper and bake for 3 - 5 minutes or until bottom is golden brown.

Mix eggs, cream, salt, pepper and grounded onion together.

Into the quiche base, evenly place the ham and half of the cheese. Pour over the mix and then sprinkle remaining cheese on top.

Bake for 35 - 40 minutes or until a knife inserted near the centre comes out clean. Let it stand for 5 - 10 minutes before cutting.

If you want to do a veggie option, you could put cooked spinach, roasted peppers and roasted courgette in instead of the ham. That is also nice (I added mushrooms too!)

    Good Morning,

Been bucketing down here as forecast. Weather here doesn't look good for next few days but Somerset looks more hopeful!
Hoping to get away by 9am and go to Sudbury Hall and National Trust Museum of Childhood before going to our hotel at Lichfield.
Portishead tomorrow and then Ston Easton for our 2 night win.

Had some worrying news about DHs brother. He is in hospital in S.Wales awaiting a heart operation, probably a double bypass. He went in for checks and they were so worried he has been kept in.
At least he is in the best place now and they are going to operate soon.

Hope you had a lovely meal out Luckofthedraw.

How is gardening doing Alfie? It must be a real show piece. Wish ours was.

Sylvia, hope you are having a lovely time with your family.

Hope the apple crumble went well FF. Love crumbles.

I always buy my quiches C0nfused but maybe I will try your recipe sometime - thank you. I do have 2 sons who are chefs and a daughter who has cooking qualifications too so I never feel very confident trying different things.

Wishing everyone a lucky May. Will try and keep up with everyone's wins while we are away!

Hi Sheils, sorry to hear about your DH's brother, hope the op goes well and he makes a speedy recovery.

Well done on the win, hope you enjoy the break away.

I'm not a very good cook at all, not very inventive or anything, but I regularly get quiche from the deli in the town that I work at for lunch and they are amazing and in a completely different league to shop bought quiche. I thought I'd give it a try and it was amazing. I wont be bothering getting shop bought ones again!

Thanks for the recipe C0nfused! I think life's too short to make pastry - even Mary Berry says she buys some kinds of pastry! (puff I think)

Sorry to hear about your BIL sheils. Hope he will be ok x

Grey day here, no intention to do much!

    Hello everyone. :hello:
I'm new to this to the forums (just joined yesterday ) and was wondering if anyone had some tips or really any success stories for winning cash from all the great competitions posted around the forum. I'd love to hear your stories so thank you all in advance!

Oooh... crumble and quiche... I'm starving now! But it's a bright day and some Sunday baking doesn't sound a bad idea at all. :j

I'm sorry to hear about the your worrying news Sheils, but I'm sure they'll look after him. Thoughts are with you. *hugs*

Happy May everyone! Since I've started comping, I get a bit excited about the turn of the month. So many contests end the last day of the month...

Welcome Dora. I'm pretty new myself, but what I've found is to enter widely (make sure you at least have a separate email setup for comping - I picked up a free pay as you go sim too!) and keep at it. Also remember nothing is guaranteed (although that probably goes without saying). I've been comping just over a month, and been lucky enough to win three big prizes (tickets to Batman vs Superman premiere with hotel/travel, a state of the art home cinema and huge chocolate hamper), and a handful of little ones... though I know I've been very lucky and am probably owed a dry spell coming. If it's really cash you're hoping for, I'd expect that if you're lucky enough to win, a fair amount may come from ebaying small winnings rather than cash prizes themselves. I think most the cash prizes are emailing into magazines, as well as the Take a Break and Puzzler threads... so that should give you a little direction I hope. :)

Either way the introduction for newbies posts really are worth reading and set me off well. (https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4896515). Everybody is pretty friendly, so I'm sure if you have any specific questions people will be able to answer them.

    Good luck! :D
