I don't know for certain why the 2 threads you mention were removed, as I keep pointing out the rules state the forum team won't normally give an explanation when they remove content from the forum
my guess is that it has nothing to do with them being 'funny' and more to do with publishing people's comments on another website without their permission

The Inn is there so that compers can chat about anything without clogging up this board allowing genuine comping questions to be seen, not pushed down the board, yes the people that post in there regularly 'know' each other but have always seemed happy to welcome new patrons :)

alternatively there are the Arms and Discussion Time boards for fun threads :)

Thanks for you in put Glad :T

I wish I knew the official laws/rules for copying and pasting info from the internet. (FaceBook must be sued 1000 times a day if it is not allowed :D )

I have never used either of the chat rooms you have mentioned but as this is the only part of the forum that I use I would prefer to keep my chat here :)

I don't visit the Inn as I just don't have time to wade through everything to find what I am looking for.

If a new one is open then I might look occasionally, but it won't become a regular thing.

I agree, they seem nice enough folks, but I feel they all "know" each other and I feel like I am intruding. I know that is daft as it is just a chat room for all compers but that is how I feel.

A thread for what you want to talk about is probably best, so if you want to chat go to The Inn, if you want to tell folks what you have won go to IWIWIW if you want to have a giggle about something you have seen go to You Gotta laugh.

Rather than as you say having to wade through a whole chat room to find the thread you want to read :T

Haven't been in the Inn for ages and rarely posted but when I did people were perfectly friendly, not particularly cliquey at all.

Have lurked in DT but wouldn't dream of posting in there , at least not without a flamethrower to hand :rotfl:

Surely the real issue is threads being removed with no warning and no right of appeal. As many have pointed out, the comments being discussed are quotes from material which has been put out into the public domain. I am not aware that the original author of the comment retains any sort of copyright and some of the comments one sees on the original posting are truly horrendous, far removed from the gentle ribbing they receive on here.

One can only presume MSE is so terrified of any sort of negative comment they are very easily manipulated into removing threads which displease only a very small number of people.

Again I agree with you Chrissie I did not mean the folks in The Inn were cliquey nasty so they would not welcome folks or talk to them I just meant they seem to know each other as they talk every day about where they have been what they are going to do ect

I have never been in either of those chat rooms either, by the sounds of it they are much worse than us compers

I would rather chat in here with like minded folks rather than to 1000s of members of the whole forum who probably ahve no idea what I am on about ;)

It still annoys me that threads are removed and we can not communicate with the Forum Team who do it to find out why it was removed and what was wrong with the post.

I wish I knew the official rules/laws of copying and pasting info from the WWW, I would have thought if I posted a thread it would be for the purpose of people to see it, so for us to copy it and discuss it should be OK?
No one is named and shamed as we only use their quotes to chat about.

If a person complains about a certain thread is that thread then closed, does it only take one complaint?
Can one person spoil a thread for the majority?
If a post upsets a person, should not only that post be removed rather than the whole thread?
That is maybe a few questions for a Board Guide to pass onto The Forum Team.

Quotes were pasted on the threads but without the author's name so it was not like 'naming and shaming'. As it has been said previously - if an author chooses to post a comment on a Facebook or Twitter then they posted it knowing that it could be viewed and possibly discussed by members of the public.

On media forums, such as The Daily Mail, members are able to comment under news articles. I often do. Everyone has different views and everyone is able to express how they feel about the article. On all three threads that were deleted on this forum, I never once saw any bullying, witch hunting or naming and shaming behaviour. It was just a bit of fun, somewhere to have a laugh with fellow compers.

There are thousands of us someone must have a solicitor relation to find out the official laws, but then again MSE is a law unto it's self ;)

I never felt upset or offended by any of the previous threads and from the many replies of fellow compers neither did they, but obviously one or two did not like it so the threads were removed which seems a bit unfair to me :(

We will never please everyone, we don't all have the same sense of humour ;)

Had a look in The Inn
and don't really see the point in it.
Could those half dozen not just message each other on facebook?

They are all compers chatting on a comping forum, most of them chat about what they a doing on a daily basis and are familiar with each other.

I just feel the "You gotta Laugh" thread would be out of place in there and needs it's own space :D

When Compers Chat Corner was set up, the whole point was to be able to chat freely about anything, comping related or not. Obviously, not if it breaks any MSE rules, and not to post stuff here that clearly belongs somewhere else - so it's not the place to post competitions, for example.

There have been plenty of non-comping related threads running here.

The Inn is fine for those who enjoy using it, but if someone posts a topic there, it's quickly lost as people add new posts. This was all discussed and sorted ages ago, when the board was first set up.

It shouldn't really matter to me, because I rarely chat here anymore, but having been slightly involved in Compers Chat Corner being set up, I am a little sad to see unnecessary rules and restrictions.being applied. Why not let people choose for themselves if they want to chat at the Inn, or on this board? What harm does it do if there is a little overlap?

    Blu X

That is actually very interesting Blu as I thought the CCC part of the forum was for comping chat only and The Inn was for general chat.

I agree that if we posted a funny in The Inn it would be quickly lost, that is why I would prefer it to have a thread of it's own.

It is also interesting that compers helped to set up the chat part of the forum but made the rules.
Where are the rules for chat?
Have these rules and restrictions that have been applied just recent?

I think people should be able to chat in the thread that applies to what they want to talk about :T

Just 'hide' controversial conversations in the Inn, then? ;)

Most folks don't want to chat in The Inn most want a dedicated thread. ;)

If only we knew what was controversial ;)

I would rather a thread specific for the "getting the memo" type conversation personally as I enjoyed reading it and contributing but haven't the time to siv through the generic chatter posts of the inn.

Theres no reason for it to be deleted providing people mentioned within the thread remain unidentifiable/unnamed...

Or better still, perhaps the easily offended could simply not open/read the thread?

Myself and most others agree :T

    I agree again :T:T

I agree -a little gentle banter amongst like minded people should not be a problem.
I have come across some harsh critical comments from some people when a simple comping question has been asked from a Newbie(we have all been there)-others go the extra mile to help.-just a cross section of people on here - some helpful ,others not so!
I can't understand threads being removed-maybe just remove nasty comments or unhelpful responses.Often useful information comes from these threads. If you can laugh at yourself you can laugh at others!

The banter/ribbing in here is very gentle, you only have to look at FaceBook to see much harsher post that children from 13 years of age are seeing on a daily basis.

Tis life, nice people, nasty people and people who just look to spoil it for others.

That baffles me too if a post upsets someone just remove that post why close the whole thread?

Some people just don't like seeing others have fun, I find the humour in here is very dry, but I have never found it offensive, as I said above there is MUCH worse on FaceBook

That's how I used to feel, then I started posting in there and was welcomed and treated as one of their own straight away. There are lots of lovely people in there - just jump in and get involved if you want to!
