Fast4 secure server problems

Is there any other Fast4 dial up users getting problems accessing their Ebay, Hotmail and other secure sites?

I am and it seems other users are but Fast4 won't admit there's a problem.

They need to be messaged or emailed.

Do you use a router or modem?

May be unrelated, but I know that AOL customers in the UK must set the MTU size (in the router settings) to 1400 in order for secure sites to be accessed.

The OP mentions dial-up, so I'd imagine they are using a 56k modem, and not an ADSL modem or router

I`ve been having problems accesssing Hotmail for the last three days.
I`m on dial-up with Fast4 but didn`t think it was anything to do with them as all other sites can be accessed normally.

I have to agree with you now about it being a F4 connection problem.

Earlier I connected up on PAYG and could finally access my Hotmail account.
Following your link above,F4 seem to think it`s not their fault although they go on to say they`ll investigate further.
At least I now know where the problem lies.
I have not been able to use Windows update either.

I've also had trouble accessing Hotmail. I am with Zaggle dial up.
  • I agree it must be a Fast4 problem as I can access google gmail fully and google adsense fully when I use Freeserve as a PAYG dial up. With Fast4 I can get mail on Gmail but cannot delete or send all OK with other ISP.with google adsense I don't get past the log in.
  • Hi guys,

I have discovered the problem. Fast4 have changed the way they are handling packets of data. I won't go into details, but I know it's definitely at their end even though they refuse to acknowledge it. You need to change the MTU setting of Windows to get https sites to work. Do this:

    Download this file: http://www.dslreports.com/front/DRTCP021.exe

It's only about 50k. Run the program once it has downloaded, and change a single setting: look for "Dial UP (RAS) MTU" and enter "576". Do not change anything else. This also assumes you're using Windows XP/2000. Then click "Save" and reboot your machine. Reconnect and everything should work.

Do this at your own risk, although if you create a System Restore point beforehand, you can easily roll back Windows if anything goes wrong. This worked for me, and it should actually speed up your connection a little bit too. Send me a message if you need more details.

It's really frustrating they won't acknowledge there is a problem.
  • Hi Mr Dizzy,

I'll try the above, thanks for info.

Today I still couldn't get Fast4 to connect to secure sites. This lunchtime I connected to GeoISP and surprize surprize all is working, Hotmail, forum, visa verification etc etc.

How can Fast4 deny they are the problem
