Has anyone got any tips on how to get around this little problem?
Am using windows xp home but when I log onto hotmail and put in my username and password, click enter and the next page displays 'Internet explorer cannot display the webpage.'
Have been tinkering with things to speed up my computer so may have 'tinkered' something I wasn't supposed to. Was going to try opening in Firefox but not sure if there was something less drastic.
Any help would be great before I totally lose it..lol
Also, how long does the 'average' home computer last these days?

Whenever I've put in the wrong username/password it has just said 'invalid' and returned to the signing in page, so presumably it's more than that. One possibe solution is using 'System restore' in XP to take your pc back to before the tinkering was done. If you've not used this it's in 'Start - all Programs - Accessories - system tools - system restore'. This should open up a wizard that lets you choose a restore point to return to. The only problem will be if you previously selected to have no restore points made. Hope this helps.0

ok, tried that to no avail.
Now the log in page appears briefly (about 2 seconds) and then reverts to a white page saying 'cannot dispaly this page'.
Someone at work has suggested removing hotmail program (is that under remove/add programs) and downloading the msn stuff again?0 -
Try logging in with your firewall turned off.
If this works you will have to adjust your firewall settings to allow hotmail to work with it turned on.
You cannot remove the hotmail program as it is internet based so you do not as such have a program installed at all.
Your other question: For home use without using a pc for the latest games you can expect to get up to 4-5 years before normal programs will be out of your systems capabilities. Games tend to advance in system requirements much faster and if you use your computer for games it is likely to be 1-2 years before it will not run the latest games at the settings they were designed for.Looking to set up a website. Thanks for this. I disbaled the firewall and still couldn't get the page to stay on hotmail.com
When I get back home, I'll uninstall the MSN windows programs and try accessing via windows live hotmail instead..see if that works.0 -

I`m having the same trouble as you.
Hotmail was OK yesterday but I`ve been unable to log in today.
I put in my username and password, click enter and after about 60 seconds it times out and the page displays 'Internet explorer cannot display the webpage.'
I would guess the problems at their end.
I did try system restore but to no avail.
I`m not going to tinker with anything just wait ans see what happens.0 -
It is odd.
I can access hotmail from my old work computer, but still no luck on my newish computer at home.
As you say, it may be from hotmails end. will try and access my mail via outlook.0 -
I`ve been trying through Outlook and also direct to hotmail.com but no luck so far.
Like I said earlier the problem only started today or after 7pm last night.
I`m pretty sure the trouble is their end.
My PC is less than a year old.0 -
Microsoft are have been having problems with their validation severs when people were downloading updates for Windows.
I have been having problems for about a week logging in to Windows Live ID (used to be Microsoft Passport) which I require to make changes to Microsoft Money.
I can only think this and peoples inability to login to Hotmail relates to the same problem.
All postings seem to say problem was resolved days ago but I still can't login.
If you want to read about it go to http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,136541-c,windows/article.html

Thanks for that.
I tried to use windows update but it comes up with the error 0x80072EE2,
so it seems the two problems are connected as you rightly pointed out.
Will the problem clear itself eventually or is some kind of action required?0 -
If any action is required it needs to come from Microsoft, I've done the obviously like clearing IE temp files, rebooting computer but still the same.
Microsoft say the servers are up from about Tuesday, it might take time to filter through the system, I would have though a few hours would be sufficient rather than days.
If you can find a phone number or email address you could try contacting MS0
