Well, I deleted the Norton firewall program, disable windows xp firewall and managed to got through to the windows live hotmail page. Turned on xp firewall and still got onto hotmail so it seems to have sorted itself now.
Will check again tonight to see if its still ok. I also googled 'hotmail login fixer' which I had read on a forum but can't say if that helped or not. I think it was a firewall setting that was blocking my access.0 -
I turned off my firewall, anti virus, windows defender but still can`t access hotmail or update.
Guess I`ll just have to wait and see what happens.0 -
Regarding the computer life, it depends what you are using it for. If its just for simple things like browsing the web, using Microsoft Office and a bit of picture editing, then you can use the same one for years. Even after 4-5 years you shouldn't notice it performing much worse than it did when you started. Though if you did buy a new 'work' PC after 5 years, you would notice it running significantly faster in opening programs and booting up.
If you only dabble slightly in games, you should be looking at 3-4 years if you buy a new system now. Obviously, you would have to stick with games made around the time you bought the PC, maybe a year and a bit after.
If you play alot of games, you will be looking at 1-2 years. After around a year you probably won't be able to play games at their maximum setting. If you don't mind new games not looking very good, you could probably stretch it to 3 years, though you would be on minimum settings.
With all of these, you can extend their life by upgrading. A bit of extra ram here, new processor or graphics card there, and you can keep it going much longer, and recoup some of the money by selling the old components on.0 -
