Almost 50 years ago I was a Saturday girl in the hardware section of a large department shop and these were new in.

I bought my Mum one for Mother's Day, she was made up with it.

My mother had one of these. I'm sure it had different cutters to slot in so you could have straight or crinkle chips! Strangely my mother made it mine and my sister's job to cut the chips and it took some effort!

Does anyone make homemade chips now? I rarely do but growing up it was a once a week meal.

  • I wonder could you fold some microfiber clothes in to flowers?

Very handy for chopping cooked vegetables too.

Great idea! or tea towels? Like the measuring jug idea. (I like the tall white jugs from Ikea)
I searched 'housewarming bouquet' and found them presented in oven gloves, plant pots, utensil holders(!)
Love this idea OP and will try to remember it for the future, Thanks :)

We had home-made chips maybe 3 times a week - and they were cooked in lard.

But that was the tradition then and we did eat lots of fresh (from the allotment) vegetables.
    And did lots of excercise.

I do home-made wedges in the oven (usually tossed in 2 tablespoons of olive oil but am currently using up the beef dripping left over from Christmas - and by God, do they taste fab) usually once a fortnight.

Home bargains had some nice grey spotty spoon rests and matching tea bag holders. They were something like 70p each.

Totally redundant since I discovered this

Not much use for us that grow our own garlic tho ;)

But I do like the lazy type garlic when I run out and sometimes process my own into ice cube trays for later use.

For me a garlic crusher would defo make the list and an ice cream scoop-not the one with a sort of weird extra scraper bit just a plain outfashioned scoop, also great for scoops of biscuit/cookie dough to make hm biccies even sizes
