New Gas Boiler sends bill through the roof

It is very unlikely your new boiler is using more gas than your old one to deliver the same amount of heat unless it has been sized incorrectly in a big way.
it is much more likely to be changes in the units on the meter as your consumption has fell and you are being billed on the wrong units so this may equate to about double your old bills.0 -
Capwell
Don't get fixated with your new Metric meterclocking up units at a faster rate than your old meter - One unit on a metric meter delivers roughly only 1/3 of the gas compared to one unit on an Imperial meter, so whilst you are burningyour usual amount of gas, the meter is spinning 3 times faster.
Please do the simple sum of dividing the Kwh charged on the bill, by the number of meter units - If the answer is appx. 31.5 you are being charged on basis of your old Imperial meter0 -

Agreed and they don't even need to leave the comfort of their armchair to check their bill to see if they have been charged for an imperial meter.
There is no need to check that the new meter is metric as they have not fitted imperial meters for many years now.0 -
I am discussing my meter reading only. My monthly figures coincide with the readings the energy company uses to calculate my bills.
It is the readings which have increased 80/120% since the new boiler was installed.0 -
You are obviously not understanding what is being said here. If you were using say 2 meter units a day with an old imperial meter you would see a use of 5.6 meter units a day with new metric meter. The energy company often misses a change of meter from imperial to metric. They will still bill you to the read number of meter units but instead of charging for the correct 63 kWh you would be billed for 179 kWh. As you have had a new efficient boiler installed which will be using less gas this error will not be as pronounced so an increase of 80 - 120 % is a likely figure.
You need to look at your bill and divide the number of kWh billed by the number of meter units used, the answer will be roughly 11 or 32. Then check your meter. The dial on the front will have m3, cu m, cu ft or ft3 on it. If your calculation from the bill is 32 and the meter has cu m on the front then there is the problem. It is inconceivable that you are using more gas with a new boiler.0 -
If, as has frequently been suggested, you have changed from an imperial to a metric meter, you will use more units, but they are not the same sized units.I am discussing my meter reading only. My monthly figures coincide with the readings the energy company uses to calculate my bills.

Rather like a line measure 12 inches but 30 cm .Same sized line but inches are much bigger than centimetres.0 -
Capwell probably thinks that it has to be the boiler and that it can't possibly be the new meter, because a cubic metre is much larger than a cubic foot.
Correct however one unit registered on an imperial meter is actually 100 cubic feet, which is 2.83 greater volume than a unit of one cubic metre registered on a metric meter!
Logically a greater volume of gas will cost more money.

That will be true but its a different meter and it records in a different way !Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
Whatever the cause ruling out the wrong measurement (ft or cu m) seems worth two minutes. Not clear why OP is so reluctant. There have been previous threads where the energy company has not updated the meter type after a change.0
