We've always taken our own too.

I had a new photo taken last time in the hope that it would be better than my old one, it wasn't. But Mr Duke used the one that he'd taken 10 years ago, & it was accepted. I'd take a new one though, as it saves time faffing around if they don't accept it.

I had my photo taken in a booth at Asda and followed the instructions to the letter. They are the worst photos I've ever seen! My face is white, my hair looks far greyer that in real life and, having removed my glasses (as per instructions) my eyes point in different directions! I just could not get them to point in the same direction without glasses on.

I was so embarrassed about the photos and I was sure they wouldn't be accepted, but they were. I wasn't sure whether to be happy the photos were deemed acceptable or insulted that that's what they think I really look like! :rotfl:

My local photographic shop does them for £3.99 - have always been accepted. Booths are £5 and up.

I think our local Post Office is in league with the photo shop across the road. I had taken my own photos but PO said they were unlikely to be approved so I should go to the photo shop. The ones they took were even paler and more ghostly than mine from digital camera so I'm convinced mine would have been OK.

I suppose it depends how much of a hurry you are in to get passport sorted.

By the time they are in the passport they are paler and more ghostly still. I suppose they are specified to be read by a machine rather than a human

Used machine in Post Office, first set rejected as I had my glasses on and there was a small white reflection on them, second time I took my glasses off and all OK. So if you wear glasses my advice is to remove them.

peachyprice. Are you in fact a professional photographer, with a zillion pound Canon/Nikon, plus studio? Also, how long ago was your last application?

Nope! I have a little Fuji camera and an Epson photo printer and print onto proper photo paper. The wall in my hallway is light green but comes out grey in the photos but has no direct light so you don't get shadows there.

I renewed my passport last year my son renewed his in December, between the 5 of us not many years go by without a renewal coming up!

That's just proper made me laugh, especially the bit about your eyes pointing in different directions....:rotfl:

I had a squint when I was younger and I didn't realise what a difference glasses made! I didn't have to take them off for my last passport photos, so I looked vaguely human in those ones. As it is, I've got to spend the next 10 years looking like something that frightens small children!

My youngest son's first passport photos were rejected twice. Once for the size of his head being too small, second time.because he'd tilted his slightly. Tho this was about nine yrs ago he was 8
