Passport photo experiences

On the basis that the Passport office may well reject our nine year old pictures, as sent in the application yesterday, I just wondered if forum users can recommend any particular Booth, or photo supplier, from recent experience please? You know, Tesco, M&S, etc.
Possibly, given the exacting instructions, perhaps I should commission David Litchfield, if he is still alive! (Not very Money Saving, I guess!)
With regards to actually sending old pictures, I did read the "recent", bit, in the instructions. I also noted somewhere that natural aging was acceptable, as long as the person was still recognisable from the picture.

This states that photos must have been taken in the last month.

I just use our local chemist shop, something like £6 but they guarantee photo will be accepted.0

Use any booth following the instructions both on the passport form & in the booth. It's just a passport photo.
By the way it was Patrick Lichfield or is David Bailey.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0 -
I always take them myself and print them on my photo printer, yet to have one rejected.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I think our local Post Office is in league with the photo shop across the road. I had taken my own photos but PO said they were unlikely to be approved so I should go to the photo shop. The ones they took were even paler and more ghostly than mine from digital camera so I'm convinced mine would have been OK.
I suppose it depends how much of a hurry you are in to get passport sorted.0 -

And what exactly is their guarantee worth ?
I had mine done in a similar establishment for my one-day renewal appointment - photo rejected as apparently I had no ears :rotfl:
Cost me £10 to have them re-done at Passport office vs £5 I'd originally spent
Bet you can't guess what my refund was ?0 -

My last one was taken in a booth in Tesco, but the location of the booth is hardly relevant. It's a photo. As long as the photo itself it meets the passport criteria, no matter where or how it's taken, it's ok. Why would you send 9 year old photos though? By the time your passport expires they'll be 19 years old :eek:0

Thank's for your responses Guys.
EssexExile. Quite right. Perhaps I should have gone for Anthony Armstrong Jones!
peachyprice. Are you in fact a professional photographer, with a zillion pound Canon/Nikon, plus studio? Also, how long ago was your last application?
leyland. I have sent those particular photos because that's what we had to hand. I don't expect to change much in appearance over the next ten years, other than possibly dying of old age!
Tomorrow, I should be able to login and see if those pictures have been rejected out of hand.
Will let you all know how it goes.0 -

It's not that difficult taking a self portrait. Renewed my passport last November that way. Olympus OM-D + 12-40mm zoom lens, but could have used my camera phone. The hardest bit is resizing the resulting image to get the correct print size.0
