  • Just intrigued as to how much it would cost and how that compares to paying for the odd race on NowTV if you simply can't wait until later in the day for the C4 'highlights' ;)
Well, a motorised dish does not come cheap

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/TECHNOMATE-500mm-MOUNT-CABLE-MOTOR/dp/B007C5312K/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1455388501&sr=1-3&keywords=motorised+satellite+dish

and that's without any fitting costs or the additional cost of a receiver/decoder

Otherwise a dish permanently pointed at Astra 1 would be cheaper, but only provide channels from that satellite. Hardly money saving, as you say.
  • the cost of the B&Q receiver is about £60 i have a fixed dish already( which i paid for when i built the house ) and the cost of a guy to set it to point at the correct place was £20. yes there are plenty of german channels to watch, i just need to learn a bit more german so i can watch the repeats of knightrider and baywatch ( well i guess i only need to watch baywatch) . so the cost of sky sports (as you cannot buy just the f1 channel) since 2012-2015 would have been about £1200 the cost of my set up about £80 but hardly money saving, as you say. the german coverage is the live feed which is the important bit.channel 4/bbc will only show 10 live races.this year no monaco or canada which are 2 of the best.

a motorised dish would be useful as you could look at the hunderds of other satellites and all the free content, i did not reaslise they were only £159 thanks for the link.

The BBC won't be showing any F1 this year. RTL Germany won't be showing significantly more than CH4. Germany has a it's own pay TV which (just like Sky in the UK) has purchased the rights to most of the coverage.

I provided a link to the coverage on each international channel earlier.

    You must have missed that.

You also claim you can receive the German HD feed, but that is encrypted so you must have also paid extra for a decoder capable of receiving.

So basically, you are telling us you have paid out for a satellite unit which doesn't receive much more than anyone who can watch CH4.

I agree your outlay has been far cheaper than Sky, but with about 70% less coverage.
  • not at all i did look at your useful link, the feed was hd maybe this year it maybe not the case. according to the link rtl is still free for all f1 races, maybe you missed that.

from gpupdate.net "Formula 1 will remain on free-to-air television in Germany until at least the end of 2017 after broadcaster RTL penned a new two-year deal with the sport."

so if i can receive say 20 live races(ok so 21 for 2016) rather than 10 live races then thats 100% more live races , ok so no content martin bundle etc on 10 , after all i will watch channel 4 for 47.6% 10 of the races. leaving just over 52.3%11 races with no content or radio 5 live content ,just the live race which is the important bit after all.
  • RTL is free to air, but it isn't showing every race (or even most of them).

You are mistaking the quote as saying every race is free-to-air, it clearly isn't.

Germany has it's own (not related) Sky pay channel

So you watch 10 live races in C4? Then pop down to the pub and buy a pint and drink very slowly whilst you watch the others?

Is a pint cheaper than messing with a sat dish?

Who needs a motorised dish anyway, a short piece of 3x2 and a compass or google earth and a best guess? :)

    From your link;
"Sky Sport Germany has pay-TV rights, and covers all Formula One season races on extra channel until 2017. "

Nothing about every race being covered free-to-air by RTL and the link I provided earlier (which you repeated) is not clear either.

RTL show every race and qualifying, for free and available in the UK, and will do till 2017.

And the OP clearly stated this is available for the dirt cheap price of a dish and STB.

Top post followed by nothing but the usual whining and inaccurate posts.
  • Still waiting for a link stating categorically that RTL show EVERY race live and in the clear.
