Not good news re job. Candidate with better experience etc.

Invited to next interview though on Tuesday next week, so that's great. It would be a complete career change - and I would welcome that!

The best part of it is that it would mean working in Inner Herts again, and due to the commuting costs and location if I get it I will be moving house to Inner Herts :) If that's not a good omen, I don't know what is.

Hoping for the next one, then, Mas, and that wherever you end up is the best place for you.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

It can be pretty soul destroying looking for jobs these days, as you can't just send in a CV. Instead, you have to answer all sorts of damn fool questions demonstrating your team working skills and suchlike.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Indeed, GDB. Meanwhile, I'm looking at the other end of the whole job application thing this week. We have one physics teacher retiring and another moving to be nearer family at the other end of the country, so we're looking to appoint two at once - not easy in a shortage subject.

Agreed, also when bidding for government contracts now instead of simply saying what you're going to do, how you're going to do it and how much you'll do it for, you need various additional paperwork and forms.

On smaller scale contracts I tend to find it's no longer worth bidding at all, as the cost of the paperwork is more than the tight margin you can realistically charge.

If it's in September, 2x NQT may be viable.

If it's in April (I believe the deadline is almost there or just missed), in a shortage subject you've probably got no chance!

Good luck with that, and good luck to Mas!

I'm damned glad I don't need to any more, at the very least I'd be incredibly out of practice.

The last interview I had was way back in 1987, for my first promotion. That was only a formality to be honest, since I was already doing the job but it needed to be made substantive. My subsequent promotions were done automatically, Gawd knows how they got past HR.

Come to think of it, I've only ever had about half a dozen work interviews ever and most of those were little more than semi-formal chats.

Only one resulted in being declined. Apparently I did fine in the interview itself and the aptitude tests but was deemed to have been insufficiently interested on the tour around the plant - I hadn't realised that it was really part of the selection process and I knew most of what they were showing us so didn't want to ask what I thought would be seen as stupid questions. Never mind, I doubt that that one would have given me 29 years of enjoyable employment and the ability to retire as early as I have.

Overall, I think I've been incredibly lucky in my working life - hopefully that will continue for a good number of years in my post-working life.

Eek and ooh, good luck Mas.

We are on the train home, been a brilliant day but we are all spent out and completely knackered. God knows how long it is going to take for me to get over it but it's been worth it.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
