    Just seen this Christmas ad.

It's actually rather good, especially as I didn't know what it was advertising until the end.
So in case you haven't seen it, I'm not going to tell you!

I got that completely wrong! My guess was that it was an advert for a CGI company.

Thanks for posting that. I hadn't seen it, and I like it. Pity it tells you across the top of the youtube window what it's about though - spoilt the guesswork and surprise! (At least, it does in my browser. YMMV)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Kitchenwise we were starting from scratch as the diner just off it had to be demolished, plus we had concrete sickness in all of the ground floor. So we did our kitchen over new when the house was renovated. But even without the floor problems the kitchen was well and truly past it. All electrics in house prob old enough to possibly be unsafe too. I like our new kitchen, just wish OH kept it a bit cleaner!

The nearest I've got to having a new kitchen was replacing the fridge when we moved in, followed by replacing the kitchen tap when it started dripping in a way that wasn't repairable. I'm now contemplating getting a new mixer tap for the bathroom basin, even though there's nothing wrong with the old one beyond only being able to be turned on and off from an inaccessible angle.

My dad, on the other hand, was shocked a few years ago to discover that you can't buy a single bath tap - if one of the pair needs replacing, you have to buy two.

That's funny, 'cos it doesn't in mine, and I checked specially! :(

I had a new kitchen 16years ago, when I had a small extension built for a galley kitchen.
It cam from IKEA and was a good price, with several appliances as well.
It's all still there, and probably will be for ever, and the appliances still work, touch wood, touch wood, touch lots of wood.
The only thing I want to change now, is the colour of the walls!

My kitchen's weird. My worktop space, defined in "single base unit widths" is:
    - one piece next to the draining board, but directly under the boiler, no sockets.
    - one piece beside the sink, no sockets
    - one piece beside the hob, 2 sockets, used for toaster and kettle which takes up all that space
    - one piece beside the hob, 2 sockets, got the breadbin there, so only half the depth available - room to make a sandwich if you juggle things.
    - one double piece, 2 sockets, where the microwave sits, so there is one piece to "work at", but that reduces to zero space when I use the toaster oven as I pick that up and put it there.

So I've no real "worktop space" to speak of. Imagine if you had a good sized kitchen, but just one piece of small worktop in each corner. Forever walking around the space, nowhere to do stuff.

And the base units are also as much use as a chocolate teapot. There's the spot under the sink, that you can't get to as it's only got one door and is filled with plumbing pipes. There are four other singles, two of which require access to rear-fitted socketry and gas switch off. So there are two usable base units and two wall units (which I can't use as I'm not tall enough to reach into).

And I hate the colour :)
And the floor's badly fitted :)

Is there space for extra units or worktop?

Why do people think that their house needs to be "perfect" in some way or have a "Wow factor"? A kitchen cupboard ought to be something to keep dishes in, not something for people to stand and admire (or envy). I appreciate that those are not mutually exclusive, but ripping out a perfectly functional kitchen in order to have one that's slightly better seems almost depravedly extravagant to my skinflint soul. :)

I replaced my kitchen last year. There had been a leak some years previously in the bathroom and the ceiling waspeeling. Behind the kitchen was the old outside loo and there was no insulation. It was freeeeeezing in winter. At the far end, it was very dark/dull as the lay out meant that the small window was blocked by wall units. Kitchen was OK, being only ten years old, though a bodge cheap job at the time. Getting into the pantry required contortions. Frankly it was depressing, cold and I could barely stand being in it.

It's a lot warmer now and it's so pleasant to be in. Knocked through old outside loo and a big window at the end, pantry door blocked off and the space is now an understair storage area. Ceiling isn't sagging and it's warm in winter.

A year later and it still makes me smile. I don't have proper holidays and I work in a building that is all but falling down. Having a nicely decorated home makes me happy.

I replaced mine this year - mind you, I did also replace the entire building :rotfl:

My kitchen now is almost as big as my old lounge was - I have worktops everywhere that there isn't a door (3 of those), radiator, fridge/freezer or cooker, with cupboards under all except slots for the washing m/c and dishwasher. The one under the sink is partly usable - up to about half-way up is clear of plumbing, etc. so effectively that cupboard is a 3/4 one.

It's much better than the one in my old flat, although I'd redone that one in a galley style with wall cupboards all around and under-counter cupboards where I didn't have the washing m/c, fridge, freezer, oven and boiler.
