There are plenty of other places for discussing politics - just like economics which IIRC someone else commented upon when it sneaked in here.

Both subjects can get emotive and discussion could well draw in "not nice" people and spoil it for those of us who are nice.

    All IMO, of course.

I do apologise, I must have come here by mistake thinking it was the Nice People thread not the daily politics one:(

I thought anything could be discussed, or are there exceptions?
It seemed just like general discussion of a topical event to me.
Are politics banned from the thread?

Generally I am with Pyxis on this one, I think we are hopefully grown up enough to discuss most topics without straying from NP territory. However I can also see that perhaps if we do stray onto controversial subjects (excluding mushrooms, food of the devil) then t becomes easier to inadvertently give offence or 'push buttons' and then remaining nice might become difficult.

After all look what happened when I expressed a dislike for grammar schools and personalised number plates....(Doozer Gal I am still sorry I offended you).
    I think....

My point was expressed to highlight the use of statistics, not the political point!
I lived for years in one of the most solidly Labour constituencies in the country and moved to one of the staunchest Conservative ones. A cynic might say that my vote doesn't count, but I still go out and cast it. Can't complain about the result if you don't vote.

    Hope that's not too political..

I don't want an argument, and I don't want to be not nice, I promise :A

It was just an interesting outlier that I thought I'd share. I know my political views differ from a majority of NP and I'm fine with that. Same went for the referendum; I had my reasons, others had theirs, however as far as I remember, a balanced view was discussed and no un-niceness was shown on the NPT.

We've discussed politics on here before Chris. It's just that we are restrained enough that if at any point it gets a bit tense we withdraw back. Then get back to the really important stuff such as pastures and her neighbours and Sue and the boys. Oh, and of course mushrooms. Because those and not politics are the things that we come back for.

Always a problem where to make your protest vote.

Edit: Comment about the referendum removed, in order to avoid upsetting anyone.

    Extraordinarily nice weather for October?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Sure is - although I generally find that October's a funny month, either surprisingly decent or really lousy with no real pattern nor clue as to which it's going to be. Mind you, I saw in the local rag that the first snow of the year fell upon Great Dun Fell on Tuesday, so winter's on its way.

The weather's been handy this week - not much wind and what there is has been northerly so I've been able to start cladding my back door porch roof. That's on the southern side of the house so sheltered from what little breeze we have had. I hadn't fancied trying to manipulate 6' x 3' plastic panels whilst balancing on a ladder in anything more than a very slight breeze.

Just got the tapering western end to finish but I need more materials before I do and they don't come till next week. However, my neighbour's lent me a scaffolding tower to do that end - haven't used it yet because it won't fit between the house and outbuilding, which is where I was working this week - so it won't matter if it's a bit windier when I do that section.

Just how big is this porch?

Afternoon all. Did you see on tinternet that someone found a 1.5m puffball mushroom? Said it was delicious.

Getting colder here too. DH thought he'd better wear a jacket today, only to discover he couldn't do it up as new puppy has chewed the zip.

LOL - maybe I should clarify that the scaffolding tower I've borrowed is only two sections high ;)

It's just to use in the area where there is limited scope for anything against which to lean a ladder but where the top end of the porch roof is too high for safely working off my stepladder.
