Ukrainian, please. It's bad enough that Russia's nicked part of Ukraine without giving them the aircraft as well (other than the ones they bought).
Most of them are Soviet ;)Is that the REALLY big one, the AN-225, or one of the not-quite-so big ones?
I'm assuming a -124, as the -225 only flies a few times a year, where the -124 is in frequent service with a number of airlines.I remember seeing the AN-225 when it displayed at Farnborough - it is indeed enormous. I was too far back in the crowd to be able to see the runway but I heard it powering up and saw the tail moving then a short while later the noise dropped and I assumed it was just taxiing to the other end before taking off - then realised that it was already airborne. Granted, it was unladen but it still seemed a pretty short takeoff run.
Pity they couldn't bring a Buran with it to display, since that's what it was originally designed to carry - like the modified 747s that NASA used to ferry their Space Shuttles around.
No idea on the -225 specs, as I don't know anyone that flies it.💙💛 💔0 -
Seek and Ye Shall Get Everything on a Plate ...
I found a bunch of descendants discussing Mr Beheaded. And a name cropped up as "brilliant, he got me started .... he has 5000 names ..." so I googled him and everything was put into PDF files. 12 generations, all obsessively researched by a descendent over decades.
Glorious
Off to see how much, if any, is relevant to me. Most of these "nutter descendants" are from the boy who went to the US ... and my fella is "the one that stayed behind", but it'll be interesting still.
That's the thing with Americans, they do like to be a "founding family" and with such a grand start to the lines they all got hooked.
One small point though.... Generation 1: Mr Beheaded and his kids ... my ancestor's not listed! All the others are.... not my bloke.0 -

Ahhhh.... the 225 Mriya.
There's only one of them in existence - although a second one was partially built but never completed and is now used for spares.
Flown only by Antonov Design Bureau's internal cargo airline.
Awesome bit of kit.
The 124 is relatively common by comparison.Interestingly, an A332 has the same takeoff run as an A320, largely because of the different wing shape (assuming +20, MSL, MTOW etc, basically all the stuff that makes the difference). I believe the A330 lands slower than the A320 family too for exactly the same reason, despite for obvious reason being a lot heavier.
The 330 wing in the short body 332 spec makes a huge difference - depending on density altitude, load, and flaps setting should touch down at around 130 KIAS?
The 320 is a bit quicker and looking for 145 KIAS from memory... But happy to be corrected. No idea on the -225 specs, as I don't know anyone that flies it.
225 landing speed is around 155 KIAS.
But enough of satisfying my 'plane geek' inner child.

End of the trail ... I've got a mismatch and both root sources appeared "reliable", so I need to wait until I'm in the mood again to push the trees further and find more hard evidences to work out who's right and who is wrong.
Being Quakers, access to actual records is almost non existent without a lot of time/cost. So this might now sit on the back burner for 1-2 years. Might get a break through if I spend another afternoon hacking away at it from various angles.
It is fun though, even when you come to a crashing halt0 -

135-145, depending on weights and landing altitudes. In normal operating conditions with 168 seat config, you're looking 138-140kt at a London airport. Less when relatively empty, more at higher weights.225 landing speed is around 155 KIAS.

Indeed. Thanks, didn't know that, and enjoy!
You're welcome - with the usual caveats about gross landing weight, flap settings, density altitude, and runway length.
Anyway its a beast and towards the top of my list of 'formerly Soviet things I've never flown but wish I had'. Along with the MIG 29 (which you can buy a flight in but I can't afford) - and the AN2 biplane.... (Which you can also buy a flight in and I can just about afford - so may check off the list one day.:))

Youngest has a brand new bedroom door....and I went to sleep and stayed asleep last night (he is working into the night on his uni portfolio at the moment)
Housing association are supposed to replace doors, this was slated to be replaced over two years ago but the HA being the HA, nothing had happened so I went ahead and got a door and got a (carpenter) friend to hang it for me. £17 for the door, £10 to friend to hang it....door furniture (youngest chose it), cost more than the two together!
It looks so nice, no more 1960's council house if I look left as I get up the stairs. Upstairs now we have a 1930's solid wood door (brother got some and put 2 downstairs and 1 upstairs as they needed replacing some time ago), 3 1960's council house doors and then a bang on modern 2015/6's not quite so solid wood but a lot better than the 1960's doors.
Going to save my pennies and get the other shoddy looking doors done upstairs now, none needed downstairs as there is only two internal doors and both have the lovely solid 1930's doors. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -

Not being a plane expert, I apologise to Ukrainians and Soviet people every where. As PN would say, it's furrin!
Loaded the big one once and the smaller otherwise. Got a pic that I'm not supposed to have of the trucks parked up under one of the wings. Looking like ants compared to it.0 -

When I saw the AN-225 at Farnborough I went with a group of colleagues from a preserved railway.
The size of the thing was brought home to us when I looked at the specs for it and realised that it could take four of our largest steam locos, in full running order and with full coal & water supplies, inside the hold - and it could still take off with that load !!!0 -
The thread's very interesting atm! I love hearing about your research, PN
So fascinating even though it's not my own family (as far as I know....;))
And although I'm not into aircraft it's made meto see other NP's evident enjoyment of them.
Sue Our house was built in the 1930s and we still have the original doors upstairs. I'm so fond of them that I can't part with them, even though they are so warped that they don't close properly. The bathroom one (which does close, I hasten to add) still has its brass fingerplate on the inside, though someone painted over it years ago.
When we redecorated the bathroom we found the original black and white tiles under the wallpaper, but they were very badly cracked due to bomb damage0
