I'm sure it is - but it just looks worse this year than most according to my admittedly aging memory.

Yes, I admit, it does look worse. Maybe it's due to the mix of weather.

There's been a lot of slipping over this year.

We have bats in our loft. If we sit out at dusk or just before dawn we see them going in and out.

We are putting in for planning permission next week. The bats and the revelation that our cottages are showing on some maps as within the Southdowns National Park may make it a bit more complicated than we expected.

    we are empty nesters now.
DD moved out today. we still have a lot of her "treasure" aka "junk" and her 5 bunny rabbits..

She will do flexi boarding with us 2 nights a week as she will still have the horse share. she will also be here some of Sunday for riding and dinner. Bf will also come over for dinner.

She has been looking at career paths ( not something she has previously embraced, had started out in a communications role) and was looking at teacher training or HR. She decided a few months ago that teaching had too much red tape and was too front line, so decided to persue HR. She was offered a new job yesterday which includes a training package for CIPD.

That's very quick. Did you put the cat in the loft? :)

Seriously, I hope DD does well in her HR role.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Flexi boarding - is that just a posh way to say she will come and go as she wants, but probably stay over sometimes?

Well done on her for getting the job. DS2-GF is doing CIPD as part of her grad scheme.

jam is quite easy to make...small quantities can even be done in the microwave on a variable heat setting if your MW is high watts...not nice if if overflows though....pectin often needs to be added to set it or an apple will do...the preserving sugar will have pectin in it already but with standard sugar just add a bit if you want non runny preserves.....apricot jam plum jam and cheery jam I made last year...Cant beat homemade... large saucepan that does not stick the food to the bottom is ok on the hob if you have no preserving pans...

Well, various recipes for raspberry jam reckoned that no added pectin is needed, and my local Tesco doesn't stock it anyway. Just in case, I did buy some "jam sugar" but have tried it for the first go as per one recipe on the hob using 500g raspberries, 500g ordinary granulated sugar and a tablespoon of lemon juice, plus a small amount of butter to reduce foaming.

It seemed to be about the right consistency when I dropped a bit on a chilled plate so I've bottled it and will see how it is in the morning - when a) the jam's cooled and b) the bread's thawed out ;)

If that works I'll concur that it's easier than "quite easy", and will solve the problem of keeping up with the canes.

I just had to remember NOT to adopt my usual cooking "naughtiness" of licking the spoon - I didn't measure the temperature but I gather that boiling fruit/sugar is darned hot. Once cooled it tasted rather moreish though ;)

 I should say so! Much hotter than boiling water! You wouldn't have had a tongue left!

I'll see if I can find the temperature of a boiling sugar solution.....

Well, the temperature for making toffee is 150C. I think it's less for jam, but it's still over 100degrees C!

    Precisely why I refrained :rotfl:

ISTR seeing in one of the recipes I found it's around 104 degrees, definitely a tongue toasting temperature - of course the worst part is that the jam would stick and be very hard to remove quickly.
