    Are you off somewhere, CK?

Unfortunately not, it's a business to business trade show.

I reluctantly skipped the private jet stands (despite the hangar containing at least 3), although have made some new contacts that could be useful, which is something these sort of events are good for :)

the kindly "old ladies at the door"

In our polling station today - the area is divided into 2 alphabetically.
List of which roads should go to the 3 not kindly/not old/mostly not ladies on the right hand side.
Similar system for the left hand side.
My road is not on either of the lists. Finally I can see it scrawled in pencil on the bottom.
I go up, show my card, and she has difficulty finding my road/my house number/my name. As I am skilled in reading upside down and had spotted it straight away this is rather frustrating.
She then calls a number out to one of the other 2 on the desk. Both are busy on their mobiles. At the other desk all 3 are busy with their mobiles.

I have managed to cast my vote - but not particularly impressed by the "system".

    You should move.

We have kindly ladies who just want a nice chat.

I made them giggle this morning :)

edit: I believe we are also blessed with a low crime area as they didn't tie the pencils down.

We have kindly ladies too. Just unfortunate that one of them asked for an update on my OldDog who died on Monday, and then she had to deal with a blubbering wreck.

I shall apologise next time I see her.

Just had a thought. If I went back later .... how'd they know I'd already been? I know they made a mark against my name on the list, but if I stood my ground and said "it wasn't me; that wasn't me, must've made the mark against the wrong person.... whoever came earlier" .... how do they sort that out?

    Tetchy, not techie?

My DW loves finding spelling mistakes. She scours restaurant menus and is rarely disappointed.

There's a restaurant near here called "Caribbean Kitchen". At least, I think that's what it's meant to be called. Their sign above the shop says "Carribean Kitchen", which I'm pretty sure is wrong? but I expect it would be too expensive to change it.
It irritates me every time I see it :o

I've been wondering where you'd got to.

I figured you've a new fella and didn't want to end up in daft conversations about how wonderful that is and if people need hats. ... when you weren't really sure if he were a keeper.

Ha ha... no, sadly no fellas (young, old or otherwise!). Still living the spinster life! Just life really :o And feeling fairly grumpy so trying not to bore you all with it!

Of out shortly to count votes :)

I'm so pleased to hear you've voted PN. I've even had a poster up in my front window (it's a main road with lots of passing traffic)
It says 'Vote please!'. I think the most important result will be a high turnout.

Only just stumbled across David Mitchell's History of the EU.
I like his OU 60-second adventures series.
