There are some numbskulls out there!
Tell me about it.
As you know, I'm helping my American friend with his research in the UK. There are loads of incorrect entries relating to him all over the web. Just for fun, I thought I'd look up the date of birth of the person in question. It isn't difficult to find... he's one of the earliest settlers in America (before 1630), it is recorded in BMD records for the town and church and can be found on both FMP and Ancestry.
So guess how many get it wrong (this is just from the first page of google results)....
Record 1 - doesn't give date but place of birth is wrong.
Record 2 - date of birth out by 14 years
Record 3 - date of birth correct, but date of death given (this is actually unknown)
Record 4 - well its just wrong, wrong, wrong.. just everywhere...
Record 5 - wrong dob, this time out by 11 years
Record 6 - this is correct, but its actually a book about him... which you would hope the other numpties would have found.
Record 7 - the dob is correct, but the marriage and his wife are totally fictional.
Record 8 - dob out by 11 years
Record 9 - dob out by 13 years
Record 10 - dob out by 14 years
To be fair, a lot of this is wrong on the Ancestry Trees, but if they actually used the same ancestry to look for the first sources they'd be right... and that doesn't take a huge amount of effort.
Oh, and that's before we get started on all the made up stuff about being related to royalty (they probably are, but in nowhere near the way they think). Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

If that one is a record you are willing to spend a bit of money on, given how close it is, you could work the workhouse angle.
I did a tour of the archives related to where I work a couple of years back. They keep the workhouse records. If I understand things correctly, they are subject to the 100 year rule, but more recent records can be retrieved if you can prove why you are interested, ie family lineage. This applies to people who are alive in the workhouse. Given that your relative died there, it should (famous last word) be more straightforward.
The records are quite organised as the workhouse was so institutional.
Worth a punt if you can get the records emailed to you for a reasonable price?
I have a similar problem in my own tree. As it is in Herts my plan is to pop to the archives myself. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? (From PasturesNew's previous post.......)
Makes you realise that however horrid one's life seems to be, we're so lucky to live at a time and in a society where the help is there if you need it, (for the most part), and the stigmas of the past are no longer here.
Imagine being put in a mental asylum for years and years, just because you had an illegitimate child. Shudder).
Being forced to give up your child because you weren't married. (Shudder).
Only two generations ago, that was still going on.(I just lurve spiders!)

It's not called the London Orbital Car Park for nothing, you know :rotfl:
For going to Devon, the A30 can be a bit of a g1t too.
Cumbria's good to get to - if the M6 is clear. When I was moving up here I did five return trips from Southampton and sailed through every time in under 5½ hours, unbelieveable. The final run up to here, however, was payback time - 8 hours, even using the M6 Toll to bypass Brum :mad:0 -

Couple with 4 kids ... 1400 sq ft of house space .... budget of £10k to get organised.
The place had stuff everywhere! They had cupboards galore, shelves galore, storage units everywhere .... and still the floors and the kitchen surfaces and the dining table were piled high!

Ah but not if you live in my part of the country and go to Norfolk....different matter for Devon of course. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
