But people can carry on long after they 'aren't so nimble any more'. And having seen the film it seems even losing ones marbles doesn't rule out being the monarch....

Back in the days when The City was a bit more louche we used to do a Fantasy Death League. If it still goes on you can bet that The Queen is on most lists.

Going to be wet and miserable here all week.

I gather you only get to the stage at 102 of being more likely to die next year than survive. Come to think of it the Queen Mum reached something like that. And apparently some newspapers didn't have an obituary ready, which tells us all we need to know about the state of the media in this country.

AIUI, the newspapers have obits ready on anyone like to have one printed about them.

The Torygraph has had some interesting pieces on obit writers over the years, e.g.

Have a safe flight back pyxis.

The latest actuarial assumptions are showing that people aren't living as long as thought, so are reining back on longevity assumptions. This comes after years and years of people seemingly getting older.

Hmmm... is there an agenda here? He's doing it to fit in with his girlfriend? Is it easier to be kosher with a non-Jewish girlfriend if you only eat fish? Or is that the wrong son? Please excuse my total ignorance of kosher rules silver.

You would be spot on, in that keeping kosher is a lot easier as a pescatarain, but both the boys have abandoned keeping kosher.

Not sure where pescatarians stand on shell fish.

I hope this is a passing phase as he really doesn't need to lose weight.

I had a flat mate when I was a student who became a veggie. Trouble was the only veggie meal he could cook was egg and oven chips. We made bacon sandwiches every morning but it was my beef in Guinness stew that broke the poor soul.

Cold and wet and miserable in Aus. Rain, rain, rain, rain, rain. And cold, cold, cold. 15C in the day and 10C at night and rain every day this week. We're getting an inch of rain today and an inch of rain tomorrow. Oh well, the ducks like it apparently. I don't believe it myself, why wouldn't a duck like nice weather too? Duckist.

I don't think actuaries are very good at predicting longevity. They tend just to extrapolate existing trends without looking at the underlying causes.

It would be better to look at individual causes of death and try to predict changes in those, but that is fraught with difficulty. It raises unanswerable questions, such as whether immunotherapy will prove an effective treatment for cancer, if so when, and will we be able to afford it?

We've decided to leave the cross in the porch of the local Salvation Army. It can be a foundling.
