Has anyone else had issues with Windows 10? I've had a pop up on my computer this week saying that they are about to update my computer (without me asking it to) unless I opt out or give them a different date at which to upgrade.

I quite like W7, but am worried about the future support if they are strong-arming people to switch to this extent. I've also seen my husband's similarly spec'd, same brand laptop crash after he installed it.

    Hmmmm... any advice gratefully appreciated.

    Are you sure it's genuine?

I upgraded to W10 and haven't seen a pop up.

Yep, its genuine. I've done some checking and its in a lot of the PC magazines as something that they are doing. Mine must just be in this current batch.

Here are some articles so you know what to watch out for. I'm interested to know who else it has happened to and what they think of it.

ETA.. sorry, as you've upgraded already, you won't be getting these.

My laptop is 3 years old, trying to decide whether or not to upgrade as while it can handle it, not sure its the right thing, particularly after DH problems with the first release.

Series 3 of Plebs has just finished.

    Has anyone been watching it?

Not only is it really funny, but the attention to historical detail in the sets and costumes is astounding!

Funnily enough, the anachronistic colloquialisms and attitudes sits very well with the historical accuracies. It's extremely well written indeed! :)

I hope there'll be another series.

And what about Upstart Crow? Wheeeeeeee! :j

We hav eput windows 10 on whatever can take it as it seems to be less resource hungry than windows 7 and xp is no longer supported. One laptop won't touvh it, somethign to do with the processor not supporting a certain security protocol. The net book slowed to a crawl with it on but doubling the ram to 2gb and it was fine again - just as good or perhaps beter than xp. Two of the tablets didn't have enough ram but there was a work around using a usb stick.

Doesn't the free upgrade from 7/8 period end soon?

Apparently you should really switch on all sorts of privacy settings in 10 to stop microsoft knowing everything about you but I haven't bothered yet.
    I think....

Do you know, I have never used a PC?

(I tell a lie - I had to once, on a three-day Intro to Photography course. I had to ask someone to show me what the right- and left-click things did, and how to get started on the desktop).

Have only ever used Macs and now iPad.

My parents ahve always used apple stuff, I have made do with PCs and thousands of pounds more in my pocket to spend on stuff that matters and none of the horror stories of phones, talets etc stopping working after OS updates that mac devices seem to suffer.

There are free ones you can use on a one-off basis.

I would go with the flow - not that I have, yet, on this PC. Although I like W7, W10 is very good too, and I have it installed on a different PC.

If you are worried about the upgrade, can you make a system image backup of your present install on a USB drive?

At some stage they will switch off support for W7, and it will cost hard cash to install W10. Or at least they say it will after July 29.
