I too can vote for the Police and Crime Commissioner. What is the point? It is an office I don't agree with, held by somebody who when he took it up, said he would relinquish his other public duties. Afaics he still does both. The opposition opponents are also spectacularly underwhelming.

It will be the first time since I got the right to vote in the 1980s that I will have chosen not to use it (as opposed to being unable to use it, e.g. overseas, sick, etc).

Thoroughly depressing. I have two friends who are working at polling stations today, both only on the police, not local gov't, elections. They are both expecting very low turnouts. How can that be considered as a democratic mandate?

We need Krime Kommisars directly appointed by unelected Brussels mandarins, problem solved. :D
I also got a polling card, but I have no idea who runs, what they stand for or even what they are supposed to do.

5 months to fill your recycling bin???

No, just over 4 months to half fill it, with loose items (v tightly packed/squashed things).

Saving money to me means not buying stuff :)

Rumours that Barnet residents are turning up at the polling stations to find they are not on the electoral register. Apparently some stations have lists of new entrants only not the whole roll.

Apparently, someone is hurtling round the borough at this very moment delivering complete lists.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Re. that link on CKhalvashi's post, if you're very quick, you'll see an X flash up in the top right hand corner of the black screen.

If you click on the top right corner, whether or not you see the X, the black screen will clear, and you'll see the link in question.

That's really romantic. GDB buying cards and gift for his wife in celebration of the local elections.

We don't have any local elections. Ours were last year.

I can go to the village hall and vote for the Police and Crime Commissioner. It appears that it's up to me to find out any relevant information about the candidiates. The only info I've been subject to is the polling card.

Posters in Hampshire have been saying exactly the same thing. Poor show, isn't it? :(

If you go to this link, and put in your postcode, it will tell you who your candidates are.

Then you click on a button to download a PDF with all their statements on it.

    There's still plenty of time!

Sam here. I went down this morning, not so much to cast a vote as to find out where the polling station is ready for when we have a less pointless vote in June.
