You need to sort out ground rules.

I would have a polite word with the parents. Lovely to see new people in the area but you wouldn't want their little darlings to upset the neighbours by denting cars or breaking windows accidentally.

Just so. I like it when children play, and I like the noise, as it's a sign of exuberance and enjoying life. But if cars are damaged in the process that's a problem.

I like the neighbour's solution of parking elsewhere, but he's going to get fed up when he gets a ticket.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

individual parts are each owned by specific houses (it avoids setting up a management company to manage communal areas).

What happens when the parking area needs resurfacing? Is there a way to make it happen or will it just get worse and worse?

I thought the system was different there. Both on tuition fees and on entry requirements and 4 year course because they only have one year in the sixth form and finish after 'highers' that are equiv to AS levels not full A levels. I may be years out of date.

In practical terms, you fly rather than drive/ train. Although that sounds expensive, you save up Avios or some other reward scheme and because it is so far away they come home less often.

I would discourage. Don't they realise it's cold up north?

My very quick look at it yesterday confirms that it is usually for 4 years but there is an option/advice to apply for the 3 year one for those completing A levels...or something like that anyway.

Erm, how do you save up Avios points? In fact, what are Avios points? Plus, not sure how to get all the kit needed at the start and end of year on a plane, even Josh who went with a light amount had more than could be carried and youngest will have his mahoosive gaming PC to transport to whatever uni he goes to as an integral part of his equipment needed.

Believe me, I am discouraging it in a supportive sort of way whilst pointing out the negatives...he's not listening though.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Avios - replacement for the old airmiles scheme. The very short answer is that you shop in Tesco, the long answer involves looking for sign -up and shopping bonuses and credit cards.

Kit moving is a problem, but overseas students manage so it is not insurmountable. I suspect the answer is to take only essentials and realise that there are shops in Scotland.

The factor that would put me off studying in Scotland is the knowledge that all the Scottish students have no tuition fees, whereas English students pay £9,000. I know it is a student loan and may never be repaid, but still.

Ah....I don't shop at Tesco so think Avios is out (our local one is teeny tiny and the next closest one is a too far for a weekly shop on a regular basis - I don't do home delivery because I am a stubborn begger who prefers to struggle to get round the shop rather than give in to my mobility issues)

His gaming PC is non negotiable, it would be an essential to his course and to try to recreate it up there would cost an arm and a leg so would rather be defeating the object of trying to save money. It's not an item that can be bought off the shelf either, or you could possibly from some places but it would cost even more.

To be honest, I'm a bit blind sided by it all. Growing up we were told never to expect much for him, I didn't really believe it because I could see his potential but the thought of him going to uni even with his potential was too far for even me to really think of. However, seeing the support Josh has received at uni and how well he has done has given me confidence in it working out for Joe too and of course, it is his life plan.

He has worked so very hard to prove all his doubters wrong and now here he is, top 3 in his year group (sometimes he is number 1, sometimes number 2 or 3..there are 3 of them swapping places all the time), it would be a waste to knock his ambitions down.

With it being brand new and with very low traffic .... I'll be long gone before that's a question!

In the paperwork it would require the owner of the land to try to get others to share the cost ... there's something in there. All "a bit legal" really :)
