Rents and asking prices still falling in London, where will the bottom be?

Or should that be when will the bottom be?

I've worked in finance related to property all my working life and this is just a very typical temporary lull, nothing more. Seen them time and time again. Almost always it's best to buy into the dips. The fundamentals are sound.

EDIT - I've deleted rest of this post, too serious for this nice thread, sorry! Will put it in a relevant thread if there is one......

Why are house prices and rents falling there anyway? Is it the Brexit effect?

I'm a bit worried by the Barclays thing.

Joe is preening himself after his final day yesterday (lots of people said lots of very nice things to him) but there was also an element of shock. The number 2 in the year group did a very silly (and dangerous) thing which ended up with him being kicked off the course and out of the college immediately!

No-one has any idea what impact this will have on the number 2, whether his work will now be submitted etc but I think they were all more worried than the person himself who thought it was all a bit of a laugh and funny...I have a feeling he will be kicking himself in the future though as he has (had?) a very good apprenticeship lined up with a leading employer.

Joe just thought he was an idiot....but then he thinks a lot of people his age are idiots, so not a new position for him to take :rotfl:
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.

Would the dangerous thing have affected only himself, if it had gone pear-shaped, or would it have hurt others and/or property as well?

If the former, and if he is contrite enough and can demonstrate that he has learned a valuable lesson, they might give him another chance.

If the latter, that is more tricky.

A member of the staff was put at risk..basically he drove his car at them and either from jumping to avoid being run over or actually being hit, the college employee ended up on the bonnet of the car. This was then further compounded by number 2 trying it again on the way out of the car park.

There was a threat of the police being called but I don't think they were in the end as no injuries but that still doesn't reduce the seriousness of his actions.

I'm delighted to hear about Joe's success.

As for the other, in many places you'd give the person a chance to submit out of common humanity.

But, having read your description, I wouldn't blame them if they just said No, it's over.

    OMG! That is serious!

I mean to try it once out of stupidity, is one thing.
Then to do it again, well............. I agree with Zag.

I had been thinking that maybe he'd climbed up a statue or onto the roof to put some knickers on a statue or something of that ilk, but driving at someone for a joke?
    And then again?

Jeesh! I think he got off lightly with being thrown out.

I agree that it sounds very serious - particularly in view of having done it twice. However, I'm not sure that not submitting his work would "make the punishment fit the crime". He has, after all, done the work. His academic achievement is real, and I don't see the harm in recognising that. OTOH, his driving is deliberately dangerous, and IMO they should have called the police, and if they had I hope he would have lost his licence.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

People have gone to jail for less. However, even people in jail can study for qualifications.

I'd hope they'd give the benefit of the doubt, but they don't have much time to submit the grades, and they need to think calmly about it.

I just had a Laurel and Hardy moment, so embarrassed.

Dear Son is doing his weeks work experience with me at my office. Today I had a H&S inspection scheduled on a flat I own and let.

Dear Son followed me into the flat to meet the lovely tenants, a Polish couple.

So I began my inspection and got to the 2 ceiling alarms that sit in the open plan kitchen / living room.

'Did I install these'? I couldn't remember. The flat is 2 yrs old.

Anyway lets test them eh Mr tenant.

First one tested fine, battery all ok.

Second one, well it's not something I recognised.

Where do we press to test it? Tenant and I circled it a few times.
In the end started jabbing a protruding piece of plastic .

Beep - red and blue light. What does that mean?

'Let me play around with this' I say.

    A couple more presses

    WHACK!!!!!!!!!!!
All hell breaks lose! Alarms and something else.........

Tenants dive for the floor - !!!!!! is happening here??

Oh no, a moment of realisation, the inbuilt funky looking sprinklers mounted low on the walls have all gone off..

Within seconds we were drenched in something, and running round like headless chickens

How the hell is this going to end.......

'Something' is spewing out in very high powered wide arc jets, we can barely see

what is this stuff, is it foam or what!

how will I even get this thing off??

An age of indecision passes, panic rising big time

I know - I twist the ceiling alarm to take it from it's mounting and run into the bedroom, nothing

    I jab away at it

    Panic rising

    At last, somehow it stops

We all stand there dripping, except son who has by now dived out the front door (great help!)

Turned out to be super fine water mist thankfully, so we all got mopping and wiping and in fact couldn't stop laughing

    What a wally
