Fwiw I've also read that thread. I had a slightly different take on it... my thought was that there probably is a lot of truth in it, but that the reason that the person was getting upset may have been that their inheritance was being squandered. Therefore they want to ringfence any remaining funds for themselves.

Unfortunately some people do behave apallingly in certain situations and think nothing of ripping off their nearest and dearest. So I can well believe the underlying problem is true.

For those of you who like puzzles:-

We have two completely separate sinks in our kitchen, each with its own tap. The taps are pretty old. One of them is dripping.

So, my question is why did I (intentionally) replace the tap that was still working fine with a brand new one? :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

    I've a couple of answers:

1] You intend to replace them both with the same tap, so will be buying another tap this week and preferred to replace the working one for now as you know that won't be a problem.

2] Similar to 1, but you want to do the good tap now because that's the one you use most/prefer or is more in your line of sight so will look nicer until you get that 2nd tap.

3] 1&2, plus, you expect the dripping tap to be a right pain in the butt, so you're gaining experience with the better tap, knowing you'll at least have one fully functioning/done immediately, rather than "wasting" the new tap on the one that's going to be a pain.

simple you changed the wrong tap...we did that on a two taps that go into one..now you have to turn the taps different ways to work..how can u possibly remember which way each one goes...left or right its all to do with washers for hot or cold and they only had cold washers so now the cold or hot is errrr:eek:different to what it should be...

I did say that I intentionally changed the wrong tap.

PN is part of the way to understanding my reasoning. :)

Edit: And can't you get the correct washery things now perhaps?

As PN says, you want the new tap where the good tap is and will then use the good tap to replace the broken one.

It is possible to just replace the washer or cartridge on most taps.
    I think....

I'm watching Who'd be a Billionaire on Sky Living +1. It is about "iceberg housing" - those mega-wealthy people in London who build layer upon layer underneath their house.

There's a poor woman in North London whose neighbour did it to them and in the middle of the night they'd taken so much house out that it all collapsed into a hole, causing structural damage to their own home. All told it is going to take six years to put right. Meanwhile her house has huge cracks and is immensely cold and damp. She cannot sell or rent.

Another house also fell down, damaging neighbouring houses, but because the house was owned by a company, it just liquidated.

However my favourite thing in the whole show was someone who asked their architect, in all seriousness, to build their own private entrance to the District Line.

    More money than taste.

So, in the town where we have our holiday flat, the council are concerned that there are too many flats being built and not enough hotels. A few years ago they passed regulations that require apartment blocks of a certain size in certain prime locations (mainly sea views) have to incorporate a hotel. One block in particular has seen the hotel changing hands many times and still hasn't opened.

Current owner is rumoured to be a Russian oligarch. The russians in this area are not known for their conservative taste. Bear in mind that the hotel hasn't opened yet, isn't complete and doesn't even have a name!. But is does have some lights.
