Pyxis We still have a gas cooker with eye-level grill. It needs replacing after 33 years but we can't decide whether to get another similar one - they are relatively expensive now as they are much less common than they used to be and we know it won't last nearly as long as the current one has - or just get a cheapo one to last until we get the kitchen replaced and can then perhaps get a built-in one with the hide-and-slide door I lust after....
I hope Maggie is simply having internet problems rather than feeling too unwell to post. We're thinking of you, Maggie, if you're reading along0 -
What make is it?
I'd never heard of toaster ovens, only mini-ovens with grills.
I really bemoan my lack of a decent 'grill'. My oven has one which is abominable, the microwave has one that is useless.
I have a toaster, and I can make toasted sandwiches in it with Toastabags, but it would be good to have a grill to do other things under.
I really, really miss the old eye-level grill that was on my old gas oven many years ago.
Well, toaster oven/mini oven with grill ... depends who wrote the marketing script.
It's the ~£30-35 one Lidl happened to be flogging one week: Silvercrest. I bought it a year ago. Like this: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/silvercrest-electric-oven-grill-26-99-lidl-from-13-8-15-2259441

If you use the eye-level grill a lot, I'd get another one. I have really hated not having a proper grill.
Plus loads of people on a review site said they really miss theirs.
On the other hand, if you hardly ever use it, or only use it for toast and nothing else, then a toaster would do just as well.
What's a hide and slide door?(I just lurve spiders!)

I am guessing a hide and side oven door tilts down then sides in under so you can get close to the oven. I prefer elecric grills - take longer but you don't burn everything.
Grr, bought some bolts 2 days ago, 2 sizes as wasn't sure but now want to try the shorter ones. Longer ones are still in the car where I left them, shorter ones have disappeared. Two poissibilities, another family member has move them or I have taken them up to use them and put them somewhere that even considerable searching has not revealled. Cross (probably with myself)I think....0 -

The TV channel Drama is showing a rerun of the short series "Mapp and Lucia" based on the novels by E.F. Benson, first shown in 2014 and starring Anna Chancellor, Miranda Richardson, Steve Pemberton, and Mark Gatiss.
It is excellent entertainment, really funny, and set in the beautiful town of Rye.
You've missed the first episode, (it was on yesterday evening and repeated in the small hours this morning) but you may be able to get it on catchup or similar.
I really can recommend it.
Sadly, I don't think they are going to produce any more series of it. Very sad about that.
Au reservoir. (Sic)(I just lurve spiders!)

Sowee, Pastures.
Edit. just realised that that could read as 'so wee' instead of 'sorry'!
Didn't mean it to be 'so wee!'(I just lurve spiders!)

I did find the garden shears though ... bizarre place, they were in the shed, inside a "pop up" garden waste bin.... buried under 2 black sacks and the garden waste "popped down"/secured. *sighs* - it must've made some sense to me, but I dislike having any tools in the shed really. Maybe the previous time I used them I thought I was getting them out again soon ... except I never did.
The new drill is a screwdriver. No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -

My DW used to live in America where they don't seem to have grills in ovens (or electric kettles for that matter). Toaster ovens are just electric gadgets that sit on a kitchen surface and grills toast or whatever. It looks like a large sandwich-toaster IYKWIM.
US kitchens have enough space to make this practical, and in the old TV series the Honeymooners (the original series the Flintstones was based on) the Kramdens used to argue about not having such an essential consumer item. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
