Why don't you get 52 from Virgin SC?
Fibre seems to cost about £130 for 12 months including phone line rental etc whereas non-fibre is about £45 all in for 12 months.
WE used to get about 6 on adsl and that was fine for streaming on 1 tv but struggled once you added a second or third device. Although BT in theory also gave us 50 (same as new virgin) it seemed to fail almost every evening whereas touch wood the virgin is up all the time. They did leave an ugly green pipe across our front yard that they promise they will come back and bury at some point.I think....0 -

I was just trying to show whether GDB's 10:1 prediction was accurate.
I probably pay a lot more than you to get the speed I do.
I was actually disappointed - I should be getting more than that. We have "vivid 200 optical fibre" broadband, I guess that means we should get 200 rather than 41. Though I suspect 200 is split between all devices.
Just redone it. I guess plugging in an ethernet cable to the router would improve it, as the wifi must have a limit??I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I don't have fibre, but my standard bb is 20.38. Didn't catch the upload, but was pretty slow. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Ours is standard, not fibre. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Blimey, Silver! You're on fire!
Is that fibre?
Well, it certainly isn't aluminium
Note - that wasn't a hark back to our American English discussion of a few days ago. ADSL doesn't work as well over aluminium cables compared to copper ones. There is still quite a bit of aluminium on the network - put in in the '70s when the price of copper was sky high and the network needed to be expanded in a cost-effective way. Aluminium was found to be a satisfactory solution, which it is if you only want to carry voice and, maybe, fax services. Back then no-one had thought of ADSL so it wasn't seen as a problem.0 -

With a 21Mb/s download I'd have expected more than a bit under 1Mb/s upload speed but it does depend on whether or not the provider has pegged it at a lower speed than the system is capable of providing, possibly to reserve more bandwidth for the download speed.0 -
I've tried that speed checker several times but it just gets stuck thinking about it. Which is odd because my download speed is fine for most of the stuff I want to do.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

I did wonder if it was down to device. Currently surfing on a cheapo kindle fire that cost me less than fifty quid. DH ran same test on laptop with a squizillion firewalls and anti virus and malware stoppers and the download was half the speed of mine. Yet the upload was faster. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? I'm not a keen gardener, either, but you could try clearing a little patch of ground and sticking some bedding plants in. You can get a trayful of small ones for £2-5 and they don't half grow!No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0
