Massive Sky savings

Hi folks
New to the forum, but felt like I'd share my experiences today after watching Martin on TV this morning. First I used the MSE energy comparison to save £500 a year on my gas and electric. Being spurred on by this I decided to see if I could get my Sky bill down. I've been paying £62.50 for a family package with one multi room. I asked to be put through to retentions to cancel my package, and a lovely lady asked if she could try to get my bill down. I explained I no longer used the multi room, so that saved me £11.25, then she put me onto a new package, getting the same as I get now, but for £36. She then offered me a £16 a month discount for 10 months. That made my bill £20 until December then going up to £36 for 2 months until end of new contract. I'll be sure to 'cancel' again next February
. To top it all off she discovered I'd been overpaying by £10 a month, meaning I have a credit on my account of £152. Meaning no bills until November
Thanks Martin, I'm about a grand a year better off

Family has been £36 since last summer 2015.It looks as though you were lucky, like I was, as they didn't put my Variety subscription up to £30 from the original £28.0 -
Just seen your reply what is the difference from Family to Variety as I dont watch Music and Kids programmes and its all to much expence for what I do watch and I cant seem to get a reply from Sky0

If you don't want to watch documentaries, you are probably better off with the Original package, which is £20(max) per month.
After having free Family, for a year, I (hastily) downgraded to Variety, as we didn't watch boxed sets, but then went down to Original , as we didn't watch Children's tv, arts programmes or watch documentaries, beyond those on the free channels.0 -

I did a survey of my own use of Sky channels and found that, barring the odd programme here and there, I mainly watched Sky Atlantic and Sky Living.
As they're both available on a Now TV Entertainment package (£6.99/month) I immediately cancelled my Sky subscription.
I then realised I could do without those 2 channels too - so bought a refurb Humas Freesat for £99 with the first few months of saved subscription.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Just decided, on a whim, to call Sky as we were paying nearly £80!! per month and there are only the 2 of us left in the house now the kids have moved on.Granted we do have the Sports and the Movies packages ,but i thought if i didn`t ask, they wern`t just going to GIVE it to me.I had done this previously when the kids moved out and i cancelled their boxes,we were paying then just over £100!!
We have been with Sky for approx 20 yrs, except for a 3 yr break when we lived abroad.
I didn`t threaten to leave but just asked politely, if there was anything they could do for me to reduce the bill.I was put on hold for a couple of minutes and then the operator came back and said they could reduce the bill to just over £50 a month!! I accepted !!
Moral of the story....ask nicely and you may receive!!::T0 -

Could you not log into your Sky account and web chat an advisor?0 -

They have given you the "standard" discount of 35% from the sounds of it. You COULD have held out for a much better deal - try cancelling next year and save more £££s:)0 -
We're paying over £106 for Sky TV, broadband unlimited and phone, and someone on Facebook was telling me they can get me the same deal for around £46. I need to cancel with Sky first and then they will set me up using a different bank account. Should I be suspicious?0
