    If yours is a "short marriage" (usually less than five years) a court will general not decide assets are fifty fifty but aim at putting both back to the same position they would be in if the marriage hadn't happened In that case depending on what you have both contributed to the marriage then £5K may be a fair offer and the inheritance not split.

    You really, really need decent legal advice and not forum advice.

    hi thanks to everyone for their advice, I do have an appointment with a solicitor and I am going to see what he says before deciding anything.

    I'm also think the inheritance should be left to him.

    I can see the abuse a man would get on here if he came on chasing half of his current wifes inheritance left to her by her mother.

    The situation is exactly the same, but as you're a woman the responses on her are usually along the lines of '' take the rotten man for everything he has''

    * cue the abuse from the scorned women of mse
