Thinking of moving from BT to Plusnet - Are they ok?

I am still with BT I renegotiate my contract every renewal0

I've been with Plusnet or years with no problems at all.
I'm a ex TT customer. Hell would have to freeze over before I used them again.0 -
To be honest BT are not alone, they take the Gym Membership biz model, have more members than kit they have can comfortably support if all used at once in anger, charge the existing customers as much as they can get away with and offer new customers a deal.
I recommended people to Plusnet and TalkTalk over the years, some just stuck with them and paid the higher price seeing it as an introductory discount because they are too busy with their lives.
I heard on radio that less than 2.4m households switch energy, less than 10%, with energy I understand, the calculations are a nightmare and somehow you always end up paying more than you were, but with BB it is a no brainer.
I think you have made your decision to go with Plusnet.
One thing, there have been rumours on here that when you order from another supplier BT use the notification as a trigger to come back to you with an offer you can't refuse. This is against OFCOM rules but several members on here have said it happened to them.
Also remember that since they scrapped getting the PAC code from old vendor (you now just initiate the transfer at the new supplier - plusnet ) the new supplier is supposed to tell the old supplier but some suppliers have continued to bill, so once your order is confimred at Plusnet, give BT a courtest call to tell them you have moved and so have cancelled direct debit (assuming no more owed). easier to cancel than get your money back after they have taken it by mistake. Thanks for the info - I am a little surprised that, after 28 years as a customer, BT are not interested in offering a better deal - £23 per month for 38Mb fibre on 18 month contract. New customers get £10 per month and 12 month contract. Unless anyone comes back with anything really bad then I think it is time to switch to PlusNet which works out at £9.99 over the 18 months.
PlusNet have told me today that they now supply the BT Home Hub as well.
Thanks again for the info. Thanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
Personally I wouldn't join Plusnet. Currently with EE they are the most complained about internet provider. Customer services can be ok if you don't mind waiting 45-60 minutes just to talk to someone. Their live chat has become very poor.
Their reviews on something like Trustpilot are terrible, although it should be bourne in mind that happy customers tend not to reviw.
Best of luck if you join - you may need it.0 -

That's kind of a half truth, they now supply the Plusnet Hub One to fibre costumers. Which basically is a BT Home Hub 5a (which the internal board is by made Sagom), but with a white paint job and some of BT features disabled (BT FON for instances, and BT Smart Set up).
But the BT Home Hub 5 will work with Plusnet Fibre.0 -
Could be a good thing that Fon is disabled
I mean BT carve off some of the Wifi and Broadband that YOU pay for and sell it via Fon to any jack harry who happens to be in range.
Would be interesting to test both on same line and see if speedtest.net reports same speedThanks, don't you just hate people with sigs !0 -
I have the older BT Home Hub 3? using that with my Plusnet fibre connection. The PN one didnt have any Gigabit ethernet ports, where the Hub 3 had one.
I need a new router, a proper Gigabit one.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It is interesting how much of a bonus it can be if you were going to buy high performance network kit and you get it from the ISP.
I am sure we all like Wireless AC routers and 10gb network ports but they have to draw the line somewhere.
I bought an AC router with 1gb ports for £33 on eBay, the problem is Wireless AC speeds can only be gained if all your kit comes with an AC Network Adapter, so my laptop could not access it and it does not have a 1gb ethernet port either.
Before that I got myself a gigabit switch on eBay for £13, so not a big deal really, just nice to have less "kit" but then if your into computing there will always be more kit than the Mrs wants!
Obviously, as time passes and these technologies become the standard we can expect all ISP's to include them.
Sadly a lot of broadband routers only have the one 1gb port because they do so for uplink.
I think for most people the router will not affect their buying decision until it is dire and that is not the case.forgotmyname wrote: »I have the older BT Home Hub 3? using that with my Plusnet fibre connection. The PN one didnt have any Gigabit ethernet ports, where the Hub 3 had one.

Plusnet now do a new modem router called the Hub One (Basically a reskinned BT Home Hub 5a). It has 4 Gigabit ports.0 -

Quite simply, because after 28 years they reckon it's unlikely that you are going to leave-so why discount your rates?
The only way to get the decent discounts is to give your notice and then speak to retentions. Discounts for loyalty do not exist. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
