This thread has me baffled, where I live currently you have a recycling bin, which is actually quite limited to what you can put in there, and a rubbish bin and they collect a different one each week.
I've just looked on the council site where I'm hoping to move too and there are 2 wheely bins and 3 boxes and some different bags so that will take a lot of getting used to.
I saw though that some councils might be changing it to bins every three weeks. I could understand if the recycleble stuff might be every 3 weeks, but not the stuff that would smell. How are people with kids / nappies or whatever meant to cope with that. http://www.northamptonchron.co.uk/news/local/black-bins-could-be-picked-up-once-every-three-weeks-under-proposals-put-forward-by-daventry-district-council-1-7198649MFW OP's 2017 #101 £829.32/£5000

It got me when we moved from a three bin, biweekly, with garden waste (green), most recycled thing (Blue), and everything else (black). The new authority have 6 bins! Two different Food bins, garden waste (green), certain recycle things in a grey, other recycle thing in a green box, and general waste in a black bin. Although you have to split them up more they will recycle everything from wrapping paper to clothes.
I believe the government should standardise this and just let the local authority put it to tender.0 -
My council provides free, fox-proof food recycling bins and corn starch bags. My neighbours refuse to use them (or the mixed dry recycling that's collected weekly) and every bin day the foxes have a wonderful time ripping them up to get at the free buffet inside, with the resultant debris scattered all over everyone's gardens.
It's just laziness and I hope they're fined one day.They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -

Rathr than 'hope', why not do something? Council's Environmental services will have a phone number and/or web page for feedback/complaints etc
I reported fly tipping, which is a single man dumping his unsorted, unrecycled rubbish outside our gate at any old time and leaving it to the foxes & badgers.
The reply was that I'll be contacted within 10 working days. Day 10 today and not a lot is happening, unless you count the various bits & bobs becoming airborne in the Force 9 we're having......
Usually I just clear stuff like this, but I had an ID for this lot. The guys HMRC papers + more. So frustrating.0 -
Landfill tax is ~£80 per tonne. If you put your recyclables in landfill it is costing a lot of money, money that could be spent improving your local areaYNWA

I'd like to think most sane people wouldn't give a t055 what happens to a strangers food waste....
Especially as I reckon the whole lot ends up in a container ship to China where it goes into landfill."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
