O/S Daily Saturday 6 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them x
Still dark here, but blustery wind again, dry underfoot but the wind and rain is forecast well into mid week.
DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day - I'm working this morning, so once I've posted on here I'll be heading to the shower. DH has had two hellish days' both with loads of delays and getting held up so was late home again last night.
DS1 went out with some friends last night - but wasn't late home, and walked in with a takeaway pizza - and DH had been saying not long before that he wished he knew what time DS1 would be home so he could ask him to pick up a takeaway pizza - so DS1 shared his pizza - DH really enjoyed after a crappy day.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans/veg for the boys, I had mushroom and cheese omelette and salad, DH had extra in his lunchbox as we knew there was a possibility he would be late, he then had some pizza when he did get home. Today I have pizza's in the fridge for lunch when I get home from work, and I remembered to get the gammon steak, sausages and pork chops out to defrost. Dinner tonight is going to be the above, with onion rings, mushrooms, and hash browns - a sort of mixed grill - all of the meat are odd bits that have been frozen - trying really hard to start using up stuff from the freezers - as they're full to bursting but it's all odds and sods of leftovers etc.
I was reasonably productive yesterday - I got the ironing done, continued with the washing, as stripped our bed, and had some towels to do. I put a dark load on last night with various work/uniforms. I also made a dozen mince pies. Did food shopping, and managed to find some light bulbs for our kitchen light - they're a small spotlight and difficult to find the right ones!
I think we'll be visiting the family once I'm home from work - DH's parents are home from holiday and we gave MIL some money for her birthday and she said she's bought a ring (70 bday) so a special one, would never normally give her that amount of money but we booked and paid for them to have a few days away when it was FIL's 70th bday a couple of years ago, so need to treat them the same.
Now need to get a shower and brekkie and get ready for work.
Have good Saturdays' everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.
Dark and cold in Glasgow. Plenty of rain too.
My biscuit hunt yesterday was successful and I took back to mum a stash of digestives for her first cuppa of the morning. I also stopped at Loch Fyne and got her a couple of brandan rosti and a salmon bagel both of which she really enjoys. I don't eat fish so got myself two little steak and ale pies (and I mean tiny, almost two bite pies).
I'll be at Wa**trose by 9.30 with mum's shopping list. After that, who knows. I fancy a trip into the city but that's entirely weather dependent, although the bus will take me almost to the door of the Buchanan Galleries. I'm trying to balance my urge to do it with my desire to not spend on unnecessary things which I'm bound to do!
Anyway, I hoe everyone has a peaceful Saturday.0 -
Morning all
Off to work but only for the morning
Dd1 is coming home this weekend :j can't wait to see her
Going to make mary berrys Mexican tortilla bake for tea , I saw it on her foolproof cookery programme , think the dds will like it
Anyway off I go , have a lovely day everyone xx0 -
Morning all. Bah another bad night for me. The all too familiar pains were giving me grief so it looks like the one a day anti b's are not helping and I shall put myself back up to 3 a day. Plus worrying about Mr TA's second bout of treatment isn't helping even though, this time, we do know what to expect. Sorry for the moan!
Our bedding is to wash today and, as squally showers are forecast for most of the day, it'll be getting dried indoors yet again. I get fed up of it festooned round the bedrooms!
Our small cases are to pack in readiness for tomorrow. One for Mr TA for his hospital stay and one for me for my hotel stay. We shouldn't need much, just something half decent for tomorrow night when we will probably eat in the hotel restaurant.
Not much else planned for today so might manage a catch-up-on-sleep nap this afternoon!
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx ps SISTERCAS I too was tempted by Mary Berry's Tortilla and intend to try it some time! It looked delicious!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all,
Thank you nmic for starting us off.
It has rained for most of the night I think, it certainly woke me several times Not a lot planned for today as we did our shopping yesterday so don't need to go out.
I have some towels to wash so no doubt they will need to go into the TD and possibly some baking. Will be having lasagne and garlic bread for our meal this evening with salad.
DGD1 will probably be in bed until aboit 10 this morning so probably brunch in the form of a sausage and bacon roll for her later, she doesn't like to eat straight away..
Lainey good luck with the new job on monday, I hope you enjoy it.
Sistercas well done on your new job as well, you sound as though you will be thankful to leave your other job. Stress in the workplace is a dreadful thing, I remember it so well.
DGD1 had her first business meeting yesterday since her promotion and evidently it went very well, we are so proud of her.
Have a good weekend all and stay safe
TA I hope everything goes well for DH on Monday, it is a pity you couldn't meet up with someone whilst he is having his treatment. I am sorry the reduced AntiBs are not working, you must be wondering whether you are going to always take them just to get some relief

Morning
Thought I would post while I have a minute as today is going to be a busy one. Few usual household chores to to then need to go and buy new microwave as mine seems to have stopped heating. It lights up, makes all the right noises, turntable goes round and it goes ping at the end but everything either stone cold or still frozen. Current one is all mod cons with oven grill etc but I've never used any of the extras so going for a basic one this time. I wouldn't bother but DS works shifts and I like him to be able to heat up a proper home cooked meal rather than make some instant thing or get fast food ( there are 3 outlets you can see from his shop!). Been checking out models and prices might pop to Lid! They were advertising one in their special buys with 2 year warranty. Then meeting up with couple of friends for quick coffee, pop to my mums on way home, once in will make dough for hm pizzas for dinner and then settle to watch rugby.
Well done sistercas on job, it's a great feeling getting through dreaded interview and then being told you are the one they want.
Have a warm dry safe day everyone.Thoughts to all. Mrs D.

Morning :hello:

Congratulations on your new job sistercas! :j
Everything irritated me yesterday and I couldn't settle on one job and get it finished. In the end I sat down to make a cushion cover to replace the one Scampi demolished a couple of months ago. Even yarn, a hook and a bowl of chocolate didn't make me happy so I took myself off to bed before 8pm. Couldn't sleep so I flicked through the TV channels for ages, muttering to myself that there's nothing onI'm not sure what time I eventually drifted off but I was wide awake at 4am.
We lost Penny Chick yesterday, she was almost seven years old. She was one of our first hens (we bought four together) and was the boss. She was led in her spot next to the tree in the run, looks like she just happily fell asleep. There's one remaining original, Mogs, she's always been quite bossy with the younger ones so I think she'll take over as Head Hen.
It's tipping down this morning – suits my mood, lol. I hope there's a break in the rain, a walk always makes me feel better. I don't mind a walk in the rain usually but it's too heavy to go out in. I have a few jobs to do but they're not urgent so I might do them and I might not!

Morning all,
Ended up having a Chinese last night, woke at 4am desperate for water
DH is working this afternoon and all day tomorrow, which means he will be working 12 days in a row, which I,m not happy about, he,s getting really tired - I try not to nag, but he will see it as moaning LOL
I will strip the beds today and keep busy.
We got given a brace of mallard this week, so DH cut out the breast and the legs and that's dinner tonight with dauphinoise potatoes and purple sprouting broccoli all from within 3 miles
EH inspection went well yesterday, just waiting for my 'rating'.
Stay safe in this pants weather all xxNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Oooh. Which Waitrose Ger? I'll be at mine (Milngavie) this morning as well. A free tea after I've been to the gym, and its obligatory that I check out the YS section. Some really good deals normally:DGoals - Weight loss 6/26lb at 22nd Jan 18Mmmm. 26lb at 1/7/18. Oops:o0 -
Good Morning chums grey and damp looking here in Kent and I was hoping for a drying day as I wanted to start a bit of spring cleaning, still never mind I'll just be hoovering and polishing instead
:):)I have a set of loose covers on my sofa that I like to get done first when spring cleaning, but I do like them to have a good blow on the line as it seems to freshen the whole house up with that lovely wind-dried smell.
I want it to look nice and clean and shiny tomorrow as both DDs will be descending on me in the morning as its my birthday, along with at least 5 of my grandchildren so it will be a full house.I shall be baking this afternoon to fill those hollow-legged grandsons.
NSD today thank goodness I am aiming for a mid-week one on Wednesday when Lidls offers finish.
Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing
Cheers chums
