Barclaycard cancelling all Mastercards and transferring to Visa

I've just received the letter about this, stating that my Platinum Mastercard will become a Platinum Visa card. It seems a bit odd given that I already have a Platinum Visa card - though I suppose there's nothing to stop you having two identical cards.Stompa0

there won't be any choice, unless you get them to change of one of the accounts in to something else, such as Cashback. they don't open 2nd accounts nowadays.
i have an identical pair of MBNA cards.. have to be careful which one is the Spending card and which one is the BT card.0 -

Same for me, a bit disappointed by this as I use the Mastercard solely for online purchases and the Visa for the 'high street'. Might ask them to move me to their Freedom Rewards card. In reality it doesn't overly matter where or what the card is as I've been one of Martin's 'in full' :money: geezers for donkey's years. Plus, it would be a pain to go elsewhere as all my 'income' comes from betting/gambling making new credit card applications somewhat problematic.0 -
perhaps move to Cashback 'Dual' instead? i moved from Freedom Rewards to Cashback 'Dual' recently. Cash is better than points in this example, and you could use the Amex card in supermarkets and most other outlets, bagging 1% in the process.0

Presumably you can't simply 'move' to another card? I imagine you have to re-apply for the new card?Stompa0 -
you can. they are willing to move customers from Platinum or Freedom Rewards on to Cashback 'Dual'. no re-application required.0

The only place I've come across that accepted Visa but not Mastercard was a cashpoint in Kenya0

There is a difference in acceptance outside the UK but i have one and the other so never made been a problem for me.
Also, very occasionally one network has issues and the other doesn't.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

I had the same at a cashpoint in Ukraine! I also experienced the reverse (it would accept MC, not Visa) in Romania.0 -
I have both Barclaycard Visa and Mastercards. For many years I've used the Mastercard exclusively for online transactions, and set a lower credit limit to reduce exposure to potential fraud. I've always paid off the full monthly balance by direct debit.
After getting the letter from Barclaycard about Mastercard ending, I rang them up. They told me they wouldn't be able to keep the same card number. I complained that it might be saving them money to end the contract, but it was a great deal of hassle for me to go through all my online transactions and reset the card type, number and supporting details. After persisting, they put me through to their complaints department who offered me £50 to compensate for the hassle I would face. I accepted.
I suggest it's worthwhile everyone doing this!0
