Barclaycard cancelling all Mastercards and transferring to Visa

Received letter from Barclaycard saying they are cancelling all Mastercards from and transferring to Visa. Seems little & very short notice.

I don't think Barclaycard have offered MasterCard credit cards for a while now anyway?

I know a few years ago RBS/NatWest moved from Visa to MasterCard for their credit cards.
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

Is that right, I didn't know that.

Searching the forum, it seems Barclaycard are now restricting people to 1x Barclaycard, plus possibly a partner card.

I already have a Barclaycard Platinum Visa card.

I have a Barclaycard Platinum Mastercard which will now be converted to another Barclaycard Platinum Visa card in March.

So I will have 2x Barclaycard Platinum Visa cards in future.

I've only ever had Visa and Amex cards from Barclaycard.

going way back HSBS and RBS-stable were all Mastercards and most Barclaycards were Visa.. but there have been odd exceptions within the Barclaycards offered. i had the old Barclaycard Cashback, with 'Founder Member' on it, which was a Mastercard.

they're just bringing all into Visa, nothing to worry about at all.

no affect at all in the UK. all retailers accept Visa/Mastercard equally. only difference is those who do/don't accept Amex.

abroad, some places accept Visa or Mastercard though.. can anyone add to this? some people try to have a Visa and a Mastercard when they travel abroad, so in theory you might want to ensure that you have a Mastercard from another provider:think:
  • Personally I just have a bank account with a bit in for emergencies if they don't accept Visa or my primary bank is broken.

    MetroBank issue MasterCard debit.

I know in 2014 they (Barclaycard) were offering Mastercards as they offered one to me. or a Visa.

Mastercard in general offer a better exchange rate than Visa. Not a lot in it, but this is MSE.

I don't think Barclaycard offer any good cards for overseas, so no effect there, but might help others.

Yes, I have one, I used to use it for TFL travel, but also have an Amex now so use that instead for contactless.

My debit card is not contactless. I hope the bank will make it at some point.:p

I use a Halifax Clarity card when overseas but can't remember whether it's Visa or MasterCard.
